What to buy...

Contributor: LikeSunshineDust LikeSunshineDust
So I bought a new phone back in January and I finally got my $50 rebate from it in the form of a prepaid Visa card. (Thanks Verizon!) I told myself I was gonna hold on to it and use it for groceries or gas or something I usually spend money on. But the second I got it in my hot little hands, all I could think of was my EF wish list. Sigh... I'm not really sure what to do.

I'm doing pretty well financially right now, so I can certainly afford to spend it on a little gift for myself, but I find myself saying that a lot lately. I keep telling myself that I'm not gonna buy anything new until I review all the toys I already have. Clearly I have no self control, because since I first said that, I've received 4 packages from EF. That's been in the past month or two.

Now I'm laughing at myself. Originally, this post was for advice on what to get with my rebate (hence the title), but now I'm hoping to get a little self control advice.

So whad'ya think?

So I think after typing all that, I have come to two options (neither of which is spend the money now):

1. Get caught up on reviewing everything I have then use the rebate as my "reward".

OR

2. Give my boyfriend the card and tell him to pick something out from my wish list at some random point of his choosing (maybe near my birthday in May).

Humm. I have a suggestion that is not listed. Pick the one thing in that price range you really want. Get it as a reward for all of the hard work you are going to be doing to get all your other reviews written.

^ That's a good suggestion.

Make sure, if you decide to wait, that you check the expiration date on the Visa card: the rebate ones usually don't last very long.

Good point!

I am also terrible with impulse buying--eBay will be the death of me! If you are SURE that you can afford to splurge on something nice for yourself (drag out your calculator and push a few buttons--we often think we can afford to buy things when we shouldn't), then definitely get yourself either a) something you really want and will feel good about getting, or b) something you really want that is part of one of EF's new promos... there are some sweet deals going on right now!

Heh, I think I need to keep the card as leverage for myself to actually get them done.

I think it's good for a year, so I have plenty of time.
