I'd like to know what's the best meal you ever had, but also, where was it? Were you with anyone else? What made it so special? Was there anything besides the food that added to your enjoyment?

If you want, I'll give you the recipe. Call me obnoxious: my best meal is one I make myself

Call ME obnoxious, I was going to PM you & ask if you had the recipe! I am not lying! I asked Carrie Ann for a recipe she mentioned in the discussion about what you'd make your country's leader if s/he came to dinner & she gave it to me, too! She shared a simple dish of polenta & lemony wilted kale. See, I think the appeal for me is pretending I'm eating well if greens are involved You want to send it to me PM, include it here, or start your own discussion with it in Eden Cooks?

Right now it would be the meal I just had on vacation with my family for our family reunion. I had my moms backed mac and cheese which I had not had in a bit. My aunt's zucchini bread was so yummy, some barbecue chicken and some potato salad.

I like the chicken fajitas at a local authentic Mexican restaurant, with their chips and salsa. My other favorite is from an amazing home cooked BBQ place near me. I love their BBQ chicken with homemade sauce, their homemade onion rings and macaroni salad. I also can't resist taking home a piece of cake the owner's wife makes!

Anything my father cooks! He always dose very traditional PR dishes, my favorite being arroz con gandules (which he makes for every holiday). Recently, when my grandfather was in the hospital and everyone came to help out my grandmother at home, he made some delicious Pollo Guisado which he hadnt made in years. Growing up i always looked forward to going to my dads for visitation because of his cooking. He also knows the best places to eat out as well.

Its actually funny because in the 9 years my mom never picked up any of his tricks, so my childhood consisted of pretty bland foods, aside form pork chops. I'd like to think i get my love for cooking from my father, although my meals are never as wonderful as his.

Gnocchi at an Italian restaurant in Scotland. The menu was all in Italian, and I had no clue what to order, so I asked my partner (who speaks Italian) to pick for me. He picked the Gnocchi. The meal was amazing, but just sitting with him there, seeing and hearing how passionate he is about everything, made that meal the most memorable. We've ate out at other places, but there's something about that time that just makes it stand out as the best.

A grilled cheese sandwich and soup at The Melt in Cleveland. Oh my gosh, it was superb. It was for my birthday a few years ago, I was on vacation with my then-boyfriend meeting up with a friend from Twitter. The whole evening was just a blast.

No idea what my favorite meal ever was, but last night my woman and I had an amazing steak at The Gastropod in Seattle. They are a pub in a building with the Epic Ales brewery and possibly a couple others...their sign is a little confusing.
Anyway, it was a small steak, but in this state I've never had one that tender and perfectly prepared. And it came with a stack of scalloped potatoes that were browned just right on the top. They serve beer in 6oz sample sizes and 16oz pints, we had a few samples in front of us
The place had an incredibly rustic look and feel to it (door frame molding made of logs, rusty bar counter though clearly sealed for hygiene reasons. The windows were open with a nice breeze rolling through. The whole thing was pretty awesome.

@ quackbuster, I live near a Melt & now I have to get my butt over to one & experience this myself, I never got around to it before, shame on me! And to think a grilled cheese is one of my favorite things to eat!
@ SMichelle, what a memory to have, lucky you! I don't know why, but it was slightly amusing to me to hear about the fabulous Italian dinner you had in Scotland, not the fabulous Scottish meal. But really, why it would be any different than having Italian in the States, I don't know. I just chuckled anyway, probably because it was unexpected once I saw the word Scotland.
