What natural disaster occurs in your area the most?

Contributor: SimpleTeaser SimpleTeaser
I'm from California where Earthquakes were common. I now live in the south where severe storms/tornado weather is the norm. I honestly, don't think I'll ever get use to these storms!

People back home ask how I could live somewhere with storms such as these. I just tell them that at least I know when bad weather is going to strike but, you never know when an earthquake will happen.

I'd love to live in a place where none of those happen and it's always 75 degrees!

I actually picked all of the choices as I have been in EVERY one of those disasters

I have lived all over the country and it seems every place I live I get to experience at least one natural disaster. I can say after living through all of them, the one that scares me the most is fire. That one scares the living crap out of me!!!

Thunderstorms, but I wouldn't call them severe.

I'm in SO CA and chose earthquake - but upon reflection that's not true - major fires are more common.

Severe fires, thunderstorms and avalanches are the major issues where I live.

you had no OTHER category...We also have Microbursts and Microbursts. They are similar to a tornado but only move in one direction instead of swirling around and are much more brief.

Luckily, living in a fairly moist, mountainous desert we really only have to worry about the fires!

Floods mostly but earthquakes nearby just not in my exact area.

Earthquakes are the most known for my area but imo we get severe storms and landslides way more often than earthquakes.

We actually had never experienced ANY truly harsh damage from weather in my area until May of last year. We'd had severe storms plenty of times, but nothing more severe than some power outages and the occasional trees down, and some roof damage. That's about the only type of damage we'd ever had in this area and it wasn't common. We were hit last year with several tornadoes all in one day. It was truly the scariest day of most of our lives. We aren't used to anything more than some thunder and then we were all woken up at 8AM with sudden tornadoes that lasted well into the night. I won't ever forget it. Now, when there's storms or tornado warnings, everybody flips and we'll stay up calling, texting or posting things to take our minds off of it on FB until it passes. Our area was torn apart from it. I cannot imagine living where some people do, where it's common for these disasters to happen.

I live in a place where hurricanes land on a somewhat regular basis and tornadoes are not too rare. Fires aren't too uncommon in nearby areas. I'm just a little scared during summer and fall. Plus, it is horribly hot most days of the year. I'd love to live in such a place where none of these things happen and it's always 75 degrees. I could tolerate that quite well!

I live in Minnesota so the only thing I could pick from your list was severe thunderstorms, although they don't happen often. We just get a lot of snow!

Should have been more options. Like ice storms, mountains of snow, avalanches, and so on.

I voted for serve thunder storms, but we also have ice storms and we also get dumped on for snow.

I'm a Florida girl! Luckily my city hasn't had a direct hit in over 90 years! I'm psyched for Hurricane season now though - morbidly enough, it's really exciting.

Florida - hurricanes, flooding, fires (yeah, despite the humidity), tornadoes, and we've the honor of being Lightning Capital of the World.

I'd rather face a Nor'Easter.
