What kind of car do you drive?

Contributor: usmcwife99 usmcwife99
Ive acepted the fact I gotta go buy a more "family friendly" and handicap accesible car. My years in lifted up trucks(I never said ime selling them just not using them as daily drivers) are about over.

I love my husband and my sisters. My husband returned from Iraq and is Severly wounded, so he wont be climbing into my toys anymore. I plan on having kids one day, BUT NOT NOW.

I was at the Ford dealership today looking around. Ime really tempted with the Ford expidition.

This has been really hard, ive always tinkered with the engines. Added some performance parts, put a lift kit one and well now its hard to be realistic and have a vehicle I like.

Oh well, so what do you drive.

We have a dodge grand caravan mini van, we have three kids so it works for us. It also makes for a great designated driver van on party nights lol. My husband doesn't drink so he just piles all us drunken people into the van and drives everyone home.

1990 Subaru Legacy that I picked up in Montana almost two years ago when my 92 Chevy Corsica (my first car) died of transmission failure.

The bitch has been nothing but trouble since.

The latest thing it did to make it inoperable was the differential catching fire on our way back from Montana to Florida last October. Yes, it is sitting in my backyard with NO WAY to be driven without major surgery and new (expensive) parts.

And I'm STILL paying on the blasted thing!

This is a far stretch but it can save you some moeny

If you know the parts you need ide try going to a salvage yard or this website
link Ive used that webiste a few times cause ime always working on my cars and its a great site and they usally have the parts you need. What usally happens is bobby sue gets in a car accident her front end is damaged and the car is totalled. The rear end is still good so they buy the rear end and disasmble and sell it for parts.

They will sell you the same part but used or reconditioned. If it was a 2010 lambergini I wouldnt but when your with 92 that has had alot of trouble chances are its not worth another few hundred bucks on a few new parts when you can save moeny getting them refurbished. There not good as new but alot of times there just fine for a car like yours thats gonna have more problems down the road.

You can take the part with the car to the shop and have the mechinic use that part intsead of him getting a new part from a chain supply that charges more. Depending on the part you can save from 15 all the way to 3 thousand dollars. Most mechincs will let you bring your own parts to replace but not all.

Its a little more work but if your pinching pennies it can save you a few bucks

My dad's a world class mechanic (hell, he builds robots to mow the lawn for him), and he wants to work on my car - it's the trouble of getting the RIGHT differential. Anytime I manage to find it online, it turns out they're trying to sell us a Nissan SX differential just because 'you can swap a Nissan's with a Subaru's' (but they don't seem to understand that it doesn't work the other way around, the gear ratios are off).

I'll check out your link, though, and see if we can find anything there. I appreciate it a lot.

I have an Audi S4. I am disabled and it is the most comfortable car to be in. My hubs loves to tinker with cars/trucks as well. He can modify the Audi to his hearts content and it is still nice for me to be in.

I don't have a car nor do I know how to drive. My dad won't teach me, and I have no one to go to to teach me either. And I want to get a car but I'm not allowed to unless it's from a dealer. Otherwise dad goes "You don't know how to drive so why worry about getting a car?"

It's just his way of keeping me home, because he knows if I get a car I'm going to want to split.

'09 Honda Civic. I LOVE it! Which is saying a lot because I bore very quickly with cars and am usually wanting a new one within a year of owning it!

I don't drive, I take the bus! It's a lot cheaper and with going to school and only working part time I can't really afford a car though I wish I could. When I get a car I want a VW Beetle! (New Version)

Now I drive a minivan. I don't really want to, but I'm a suburban housewife, and THAT'S THE LAW, or might as well be. Before kids, I drove a sporty sporty little Jeep Wrangler, which I miss dearly. <3

Talk with someone in military health care who deals with injured people and lost limbs. They'll probably have some recommendations or know someone who does. You'll probably want a long-wheelbase car so there's plenty of space to work legs in. Minivan might work, too.

Since you like to work on your cars look for a rear-drive model. Much easier. I didn't realize what a horror transverse engine front-drive cars were to work on until I started fighting with one. It's ridiculous the number of things they expect you to pull the engine for.

I actually had more issues working on my old RWD 92 Taurus and my 94 AWD 4Runner than I did when we had a FWD traverse Elantra. It may have just been that particular vehicle but I had a much easier time pulling and replacing parts on that Elantra.

2010 New Balance.

I would LOVE to get another Honda. I've had 3 Civics and would get one again (none of them broke down, just had to lose them). I would love to get an Element, something about a vehicle you can hose out.

In the meantime, not having car payments or insurance bills is nice. Walking everywhere or asking for rides sucks.

2000 Pontiac Grand Prix. It's white (ugh) and is not ideal for tall people. *sigh* But it gets us from point A to B so I can't complain too much.

The family car is a 2001 Chevrolet Cavalier coupe.

It's got really wide doors, and that's like half the reason my dad got it. He's had 3 hip surgeries and a knee surgery, so his range of movement isn't as wide as it used to be. It' really low to the ground, too, so no uncomfortable climbing or anything.

I love the car.

We've got our own vehicles, but lately we've been borrowing our son's Volkswagon Beetle since he lives at home again. It's tiny but it runs forever on a tank of gas. Not to mention it's payback for all the years we let him borrow our cars. LOL!
