What kind of a housekeeper are you?

Contributor: Redboxbaby Redboxbaby
We live in the woods, but it's certainly no tent...thank God! We keep a pretty clean house for the most part, my desk gets cleaned up at least once a month, when I sit down to do bills. We have 2 dogs and a teenager (and all his friends) in and out all day long.

Dust bunnies happen, but as soon as they start gathering up and walking about the house (doesn't take long), it is time to vacuum. It gets done once a week or so. My friends complain that I have no clue what I am talking about, when I say my house is a mess. It's all relative I suppose. My son's friends say his room is immaculate compared to the rest of their friends. When things start getting messy I can't concentrate on much else, so I might as well break down and get it over with. It is on rare occasion that I would ever feel ashamed about someone seeing my house.

I'm not a great housekeeper. I have three lil ones to mess things up very well but I won't transfer the blame to them. I'm a mess maker and I keep everything!!!! Drives the neat freak I married insane. So where as I don't like cleaning I do what needs to be done and the rooms that are shared and used must be kept clean but rooms and closets not seen by others - ha! They are my personal storage and you don't want to get lost in my...stuff! Odd my bedroom is actually clean but maybe cuz I share it with Hubby I'm not as messy in there. I try really hard to ensure the kids don't pick up my bad habit also which makes my husband bust out laughing and leave a room when I'm fussing at them to pick up their rooms. I can't stand the kitchen or bathroom a mess but clutter is a whole nother matter in my closets.

I'm not very good at cleaning. I mean I can pick up clutter but when it comes to cleaning I'm not very good at it. I'm kind of embarrassed to admit it, but I don't really know how to really clean most stuff. I mean I try to do it and I hope I use the right stuff, but I can't ever seem to get my place to look clean. My mom died when I was little and then my dad always hired maids to clean the house so I never really learned how to do any of the cleaning. So now that I'm out on my own I feel really stupid because I don't know how to do basic stuff and I'm embarrassed to ask people because I don't want people to laugh at me for getting into my mid 20's without learning how to clean anything.

My house can be pretty messy sometimes, though only because I am the only clean person here. Everyone else is pretty much a slob. I don't have any interest in being the slave who cleans up after everyone, so sometimes its messy here. When I had my own place, it was really clean. I'd do all of my scrubbing once a week and washed dishes and stuff every day. I hate the mentality my mom has, "Oh, someone's coming over, we better hurry up and clean." I'd rather have a clean house with a lived-in look all of the time.

Very clean. I cannot stand clutter, dust, or any of that.

Living with a 3 and a 4 yr old. .... I WISH I could move to the woods in a tent. My house is a disaster. I clean it regularly.... but there is no way, unless I devote my entire day to it, to have it stay clean all the time. It very rarely will take me more than an hour to get the whole place clean, and I mean CLEAN. Probably once a week I go over my floors with a carpet cleaner. The rest of the week.... you cant come into my house without a days notice. I like to have a lot of time to work on it instead of having to rush.

We have six dogs and two kids. Believe it or not, my house is *clean*, mostly because we chip in and keep it that way.

It takes a good bit of work, but the bottom line is, I like having people over, I love my dogs and I *have* to have a clean house.

My house is messy, but not dirty. That is, there is stuff everywhere, but not actual "dirt". And although it appears cluttered, I always know exactly where everything is- method to my madness and all that.

Aw, honey. That poem brings me to tears. We use it in La Leche League all the time, to gently let new moms know that their children are what is important, I always say, "The Dust Bunnies don't get upset if you ignore them. Children do."

I also have the last verse printed and framed and hung in our house. I also have one which simply says; Sorry for the mess. The kids are making memories My Man has taken it down when his mother comes over. Ferheavensake! She spent 75 years keeping her house perfect. No time for making memories with her children. One of her sons died in his teens, and she has little to remember him by. SO SO SAD.

I'm a very tidy person. Mess, clutter and dirty surfaces make me uncomfortable but these feelings absolutely do not transfer into my sexual life. Sex should be messy, sweaty, primal and not treated like my house cleaning

I have OCD tendencies because as a child that was what I COULD control was where my things went how clean or organized my room was so it carries over into my adult life. I have gotten better after having kids because well cleaning/organization just doesn't mesh well with kids and they are more important to me. I do clean and go through things but I set a limit to how much I do. If I clean a room organize something I leave it when its done and if the kids mess it up again oh well. When the kids don't do it the dreaded my way oh well at least they tried to help it doesn't bother me. I will never bash their attempt to clean make their bed or put their stuff away and I am not going to constantly go back and tidy things up all day

On the other hand sex I like getting down and dirty the panting moaning the sweaty bodies slapping together ok getting turned on now have to stop.... bf better get his butt here soon

Love love love a clean house! I always have a 'messy' desk, where I drop things until later that day. It's usually pretty clean to most people though

I have fairly severe OCD myself (the doctor diagnosed, medication necessary kind ) I have found that I have to let things go. If I can't do something perfectly, I don't do them (which is one of the reasons I have a smaller number of reviews than some who have been here a year. I'm a perfectionist and it's exhausting.)

I couldn't expect my kids or even My Man to go along with my bizarre quirks, so I ignore most of the dust bunnies (except for when the dogs are shedding, I HATE dog hair all over) and try to never impose my OCD on my family. It's hard, but we get along better.

I guess I have succeeded, because My Man has complained about a lack of "great housekeeping" (as I said his mother kept house like a hermetically sealed environment) but I need to remind him that if I start cleaning the way I think it should be done, NOBODY would be able to live with me. I have learned to tolerate a lot of stuff over the last 20+ years and I'm a better person for it.

Oddly, most of the people who are actual hoarders have severe OCD. I think they can't start what they can't do perfectly, so they leave it ALL. Scary. And sad.

I am between moderate and very clean. I like to keep the house dusted, vacuumed, and scrubbed (IE walls and boards, windows, etc) but I have a 2 y.o so I am constantly going behind him and picking stuff up, of course.

He helps me pick up his toys, though. I be teaching him well! Until he figures out he doesn't want to pick up... lol

That is so true I'm glad you've been able to cope with OCD better over the years. I can empathize with how hard it is to ignore something your brain is screaming at you to do/fix.

I'm a moderate housecleaner. I have a cat and dog and I care for my cousin's three year old while she works so there's NO WAY my house is going to be immaculate and I'd probably die trying to get it that way haha
