I just got "The Last of Us" based solely on 10/10 reviews from every gaming website I know; I have to say it's pretty impressive

I really love any game from The Elder Scrolls series. My favorite is a toss up between Morrowwind and Oblivion.

I honestly cannot pick just one.
FF7 is my favorite RPG because it was the first I ever played and has sentimental value. For FPSs, they make me dizzy but I loved Bethesda's Fallouts and am looking forward to 4 (which is rumored to take place in or near Boston, not too far from where I live, so I'm excited)
Other genres... eh, I play a lot of MMOs and action/adventure type games. It has to have a story and characters I can get invested in or I'm not interested, you know? In the past few years I think it's been harder to get really quality games that leave you with a profound sense of accomplishment, but the new Tomb Raider absolutely did it for me. If you've been wondering whether it's worth it, just stop. Go get it. It's absolutely wonderful. I wish there were more actual tombs to raid, but future installments will take care of that I'm sure.
I'm a big baby but I love survival horror. It's a hard genre to get right. You can't just fill a game with gore and jump scares and call it survival horror. I'm a HUGE fan of the Silent Hill series... but not Homecoming. Homecoming sucked, man.

Honestly.... I have too many favorites to pick (I suck as picking favorites of anything anyway). I love games from all over the board, ranging from RPG to puzzle to survival horror to platformer.
My tops though are:
Bayonetta. It was one of the most challenging games I have ever played. And I love the main character Bayonetta, she's such a badass. And the music in the game is amazing - awesome jazzy snazzy feeling with a great mix of extreme epic fighting music.
Mario is my absolute favorite party-type game though, especially New Super Mario Brothers for the Wii. That is such a fun as heck game. Brings back fun memories of me yelling at my best friend (and vise versa) at failing at some parts of the level, especially World 9 - the world of all worlds man.
Another favorite of mine is Portal 2. I just love the characters in it, they're truly what makes that game so awesome. Even if you hate puzzle games I'd recommend playing it just so you can hear the snarky comments from the characters in it.
And last....the Kingdom Hearts series. As kiddish as the game is it really is an amazing game that will pull on your heartstrings and has so many messages on friendship and the good and evil in all of us.

I love Silent Hill! I never actually played the games myself but I've watched playthroughs for just about all of the games so far. My favorite is Silent Hill 3, with 2 in a close second.

And I agree with you about it being harder to get quality games now a days. I just finished a game not to long ago called Alice: Madness Returns and I was extremely disappointed by it. It had the potential to be this amazing game and it just missed it by a mile.
Good to know about Tomb Raider. I've had my eye on it since I heard about the release but haven't actually committed to buying and playing it.
