What Does Wish Lists' Number Tell You?

I would have also said I don't care if only one other person has added it, or if ten thousand have added an item. I read the specs and then the reviews (certain reviews and certain reviewers may help me make a decision). Only after looking at everything do I add an item. Ok, well sometimes I add crap because it's cute too.

It's not the perfect poll, but it gives a general idea. I think it depends on the item, and would have been complicated to include every possible options.

It's true that once you read all the reviews and in the case of the Maximus, you get the idea that it's a good item, and that the high wish list shows that they just did not have the time to buy it yet.
However, when it's something more expensive like a luxury toy, it could just be popular because it makes everyone drool.
We can't always guess what made someone add it to their wish list. But I tend to lean towards popularity as well.

I suspect people keep certain lubes and other consumables on their wish lists just so they won't forget to include them when they place orders. I know I keep mildly interesting books and cds on my amazon.com wish list so that I can save myself the time and effort of searching for another item to make the shipping minimum when I order something that I really want immediately. I'd imagine that's true on any site that offers free shipping.

Generally, because a Wishlist is a list of things that a person WANTS, they probably have not already bought it to tell how it is. When I want things or am interested in things, I add them to my wishlist - when I buy them, I remove them, unless it's a lubricant since that's something that can/must be bought over and over again. Same with any wipes or condoms, just so that I can have them there for my referance.
I never care how many people add a certain product to their wishlist - it makes no difference to me.

All it means is that a sufficient amount of buzz has been generated over a certain product. I don't really pay much attention to the numbers.

I don't pay attention to the numbers. When placing something on my wishlist I may note, "oh wow lots of people want this too". Besides that I never really notice/care. I don't base my judgment on those numbers though.
I agree with toygeek though too, some of the things on my wishlist aren't things I would go out of my way to buy, but I would add to an order to get free shipping. Because I would much rather add a $9 toy than pay $6 in shipping.

I don't know if I've ever looked at the number

But a lot of that buzz is well deserved. I might give something another look when it has a ton of folks adding it to their wishlist. It doesn't mean everyone else is right but I might overlook something when others don't.

If the product is highly sought after it could indicate it's quality, but then again you can never be sure. Thank god for the review program here.

I rely more on the reviews to excite me about a product. Now, for assessing buzz, sure the Wishlists are great.

We use the WishList the same way and never mind the numbers.

I agree...I will note the number of people who have added an item if I am adding it to my list. It's sort of a wow this is a popular item right now!

That isn't something I look at. I generally look at the reviews and see how good the over all ratings are and then start to dig deeper. For the maximus, there are 160 reviews on it, any lube with that kind of fan base should already be in my home!
02/08/2011
I've noticed the numbers, but it doesn't affect my decision, which is based off of reviews.
02/08/2011
I never really look at the numbers, I don't know if I just don't notice or what. I pay more attention to the reviews and star rating.
02/08/2011
I've actually never noticed that before! When I look at product pages, I usually check out pictures and read reviews.
10/21/2011
I notice it, but don't particularly care.

I have added things to my wish lists then later read the reviews and realized it wasn't something I would want to buy. I'm sure others do the same

Worth looking at, but only to say "WHY are so many interested in this"?

cool I didn't know this. thank you
10/21/2011
Popular but not necessarily of good quality. Makes me more tempted to read the reviews perhaps though.
10/21/2011
It definitely makes me want to read the reviews!
10/21/2011
I think it just shows the items are popular.
10/21/2011
I don't think it necessarily tells anything about the toy itself, just how it's perceived.
10/22/2011
I've never paid close attention to it, but if I'm adding something to a wish list I've noticed it has said before x number of people have this on their wishlist. It isn't a deciding factor for me. I read reviews, ask opinions on here, think about how it would work with my body etc.

I notice it but don't generally think anything of it...
