If the person is giving off a friendly vibe, I can say hello and start chatting with him/her immediately, but if a person appears to be unapproachable, I won't even bother to go near him/her.

It takes me quite a while and a whole lot of courage to actually speak. Usually it takes a formal introduction....or the person kind of cornering me and speaking to me. I'm not standoffish as much as I am painfully aware that I tend to make an ass of myself with first impressions and I am nervous as hell. It's a vicious cycle.

Me and new people don't really get along most of the time. I'm not the sort to actually say hi or anything unless I'm about 80% sure they're not the type of person that makes fun of people like me.

Rarely, if ever, unless I'm drunk, I have severe social anxiety from years of rough bullying (probably PTSD too).
