My wife and I are car shopping, and one of the factors we're considering is fuel economy. She currently has a car that gets around 30 mpg. We want a car that gets better mileage; we've calculated that each additional mpg will save us about $400 over the life of the car - assuming the price of gasoline averages about $4 a gallon over the next few years. (Doesn't sound like much, until you get to the 40-50 mpg range, where we're focusing our efforts.)
But this has got me thinking: what will a gallon of gasoline actually cost in the next few years? It's currently $3.73: link What do you think the price of a gallon of gasoline will be in 2020? With a little luck, Eden will still be around and we can look back and laugh (or cry) about our answers!
