They are called Vibrams.

The Vibram website states:
"Vibram FiveFingers® footwear is different than any other footwear on the planet. Not only does it bring you closer to your environment, it also delivers a number of positive health benefits—by leveraging all of the body’s natural biomechanics, so you can move as nature intended.
5 Reasons to Wear Vibram FiveFingers:
1. Strengthens Muscles in the Feet and Lower Legs—Wearing Vibram FiveFingers will stimulate and strengthen muscles in the feet and lower legs, improving general foot health and reducing the risk of injury.
2. Improves Range of Motion in Ankles, Feet and Toes—No longer 'cast' in a shoe, the foot and toes move more naturally.
3. Stimulates Neural Function Important to Balance and Agility—When wearing Vibram FiveFingers, thousands of neurological receptors in the feet send valuable information to the brain, improving balance and agility.
4. Eliminate Heel Lift to Align the Spine and Improve Posture—By lowering the heel, your bodyweight becomes evenly distributed across the footbed, promoting proper posture and spinal alignment.
5. Allow the Foot and Body to Move Naturally—Which just FEELS GOOD."

They look silly, but maybe they'd be comfortable after getting used to them? Either way, I don't think I'd wear them.

My husband owns about 3 or 4 pairs of them. He loves them. He runs in them, he wears them to the gym, and around the house. I think they look weird, but he gets a lot of attention wearing them and they are a great conversation starter too.

So ugly. I don't care what the benefits are, they won't ever go on my feet.

Well human feet aren't designed to wear shoes, so it's a great idea even if they are um, unattractive.

One of my good friends has those shoes. They are truly bizarre to look at, but he swears they're the most comfortable things ever.

....I don't care how comfortable and awesome they are, I wouldn't be caught dead wearing them in public.
Might wear them for exercise though considering I work out late at night when they wouldn't be seen, especially if they really do improve balance.

I wouldn't wear them, but that's nice if they really do what they say they do.

I was curious about what they felt like, tried them on, and my toes decided they didn't like to be separated from each other

they're pretty snazzy and awfully unique but I don't think they'd be comfy because I don't like my toes seperated

I've seen these a lot! The people who work at the rock-climbing center I go to sometimes all wear them and swear by them. I won't be getting any myself, but they are pretty neat.
