I do several things to save money so I can buy more toys, like rolling my own cigarettes, shopping thrift stores, growing my own food etc. I was wondering if anyone else cuts back on other things so that they can buy new toys? What do you cut back on? How?

Surely someone out there is on a budget? I'm trying to get some more ideas on being thrifty!

Yep! I got a part-time day job and it was probably a good thing that it wasn't at the local sex shop.

I do online surveys and other things to make a little bit of mad money for myself.

We started our own veggie garden to grow our own and save some money. There is also nothing better than fresh veggies grown right in your yard. I also love yard sales/garage sales. Have picked up some great deals on stuff including toys!! I got a authentic British Razor Strop for $60 at one. It isn't mentioned but I also coupon shop. I am always looking for coupons to save money on stuff and I shop bulk for my family to save money too.

My fiancee and I don't cut back to buy toys specifically, but we check sales fliers for different grocery stores every week. We both really want to start a veggie garden though!

I dont cut back I just buy what I want when I have money and all the other bills are paid

Works lots, spend little. Never eat out/buy fast food. Try not to let myself splurge on those impulse buys that are always around

I buy things like books and DVDs at discount book stores or thrift stores. I also sell things on eBay and offer to work extra shifts at work to make a little extra money. When I buy food and clothes, I stick mostly to things that are on sale. I do this not only to buy more toys and things from EdenFantasys, but also so that I have more money in my savings account in case I need it.

I work from home, I save an enormous amount not having to pay for fuel to get to an office, and also time. Then time is money which translates to.. okay shoot me.

I'm not shamed to say I shop at thrift stores. I try to save a buck every which way I can!

I have an artistic hobby and sell the end products on ebay. We have two shade houses for vegies, that I need to get stuck into very soon.
LOVE fresh green beans straight from the garden - delicious!

When I used to smoke I always wanted to roll my own cigarettes, like Johnny Depp, haha. That's cool that you do that. I guess I didn't know how to go about it. I don't smoke anymore, but how much cheaper is it to roll your own?
I used to buy books once a month. Now I go to the library instead. I also rarely eat out. Instead of going out to the movies I wait for new releases to get on netflix.

part time job and (occasionally) shop at thrift stores. usually just for trinkets though; clothes not so much

I never really changed my lifestyle just so I can buy toys. I only spoil myself once in a while.

Well at $50 per carton of Marlboro which is 200 cigarettes, its pretty hard to smoke cheaply. I bought a top-o-matic cigarette rolling machine for $40, then for a box of 200 tubes including filters its about $4, the tobacco itself ranges in price depending on the quality of the tobacco. I buy 1 pound at 16.99 and it actually tastes better than Marlboro. This makes after your initial investment of the machine, a dramatic difference in price. 1 pound of tobacco usually rolls 4 cartons or 800 cigarettes. So counting the tubes 4@ $4 this would make 4 cartons for $31.00.

I buy an expensive brand cured with chocolate sometimes and add a few drops of organic pepperment extract and let it air dry to have what I call a junior mint cigarette. Absolutely wonderful!!!
In saying all this, I do hope to quit smoking altogether one day. Sure smoking is toxic, but what isn't these days?

To get more money for toys (or anything else) I usually just pout and give little girl eyes. Mostly it works but I'm not irresponsible with money so I make sure all the bills are paid, we have plenty of food and my son has everything he needs and most things he wants too.
06/26/2011
We make our own babyfood to start, and need to hit the farmers market for fresh local veggies. I do online surveys to get gift cards to gamestop for xbox games, and also do computer work on the side. Otherwise we don't really eat out much, as I am a decent cook, so cook most of the time.

Local thrift stores and even chains such as good will and salvation army can help save you a ton of money on many things.

Shop at the thrift store for clothes and decorative items. Check out books from the library or buy them used instead of new.

Being a college student, saving money is a bit difficult (school fees practically steal your wallet), but I manage to save by shopping at thrift stores and such. Trying to see if they have certain textbooks at the library and on ebay. I try to cut out any fast food stuffs as well.

-make our own laundry detergent and cleaning products
-use cloth instead of paper or disposable for everything, the only thing we still use that's disposable is toilet paper
-try to drive as little as possible
-cancelled cell phones or any other luxury type expenses
-buy used clothes
-hang dry clothes to save electricity
-we don't eat out, cooking from scratch at home saves a lot of money both in food expenses and in health care related costs because we are healthier and getting sick less from eating nutritionally dense foods
-don't have cable TV. we try to live TV free
-stock up on food when its on sale. awhile back I got 10 foster farms chickens for $.99 each. It was crazy. Having a second freezer can help save a lot of money if you do this, even if it costs extra in electricity.
-having less possessions usually saves time which saves money. I have gotten rid of a lot of things in our house, so now it takes less time to clean, things get lost or broken less often from it being cluttered.
yeah some may say we are crazy hippies but we are happy and love saving so much money you get used to the minimalism pretty quickly and can't imagine going back.

CUTTING COUPONS. Saving a LOT on groceries and household goods that way. Also, started using "cash cards" for gas. Go in, pay with a check to "load the cash card" then use it at the pump and save seven to fifteen cents a gallon. No brainer way to save money! (Takes an extra two minutes at the gas station, however).

You will get spoiled. Home grown veggies are SO much better then store bought, and it is FUN to do together.
