So as we all have at some point or another, i got in an argument with someone about which was better: mountains or beach. Thought of some more to go alone with it too!

Are you a mountains or beach person?
While I like the beach, in the long run I think I'm definitely a mountain person. Mountains soothe me.

They both have their benefits. To lazily lounge by the beach is wonderful, but the mountain view is wonderful.

There is something invigorating about the brine, the taste of the air, walking barefoot in the sand...
But at the same time, the quiet of the trees, climbing over rocks... It's peaceful, rejuvenating.

Definitely beach for me! I need the ocean and lots of sun as often as possible, I'm totally solar powered.
12/05/2011
Being up in the mountains helps me feel more connected to myself, to nature, and allows me to feel humbled at how small I am compaired to that of the world

I am from West Virginia, so the mountains have a special place in my heart. Now, I live in Virginia Beach, and I love it... I love each in a different way.

But I definitely love laying on the beach.

I don't like being too warm, and mountains are refreshing and breezy. I wouldn't be a super rock-climbing type, but a nice mountain hike sounds fun and relaxing while being good exercise.
12/05/2011
I like them both, but in the summer when it is warm. Dont do the snow thing
12/05/2011
I love the water. Hopefully when I'm done school, I'll move to one of the coastal cities.
12/06/2011
Such a hard pick! I have lived on this same beautiful, peaceful mountain my entire 21 years! But, every year my family and parnter and I visit the beach, Panama to be exact. We LOVE the beach, but I could never, ever leave the quiet, peacefulness of the mountain here.
12/06/2011

12/07/2011
I LOVE the mountains!
12/07/2011
I love both, just everything in and about nature.
12/07/2011
I'm not a fan of the outdoors for the most part, allergies and clumsiness are part of the reason.
12/07/2011
I love being in a cabin in the smoky or blue ridge mountains. Very romantic.
12/08/2011
I grew up on the east coast and do love the ocean, but lived close enought to the appalachains to enjoy them too. I now live in wisconsin so have neither. Half my family lives in Colorado and those mountains are SPECTACULAR. I love both though.
12/08/2011
My first reaction when I saw "Mountains or Beach?" was "Yes." As in yes, mountains or beach. I'll take both or either.
12/08/2011
That is really hard to choose. I'm naturally more of a beach person though the mountains are beautiful. Where I live there is plenty of both, actually.

04/10/2012

I love them equally...as long as my "mountains" option is a ski lodge full of happy people! I hate being isolated, and a lonely cabin on a mountaintop would be torture. Same for beaches! A private beach would just be no fun.

Mountains because I hate sand.
09/16/2012
I don't like either of them. I'm afraid of heights, but I do think mountains are quite beautiful. As for beaches, I am afraid of large bodies of water and I just feel that beaches are filthy...
09/17/2012
when you've lived near the beach your whole life, it tends to become lax in beauty, especially when you desperately just need a vacation. I've always loved the mountains.

I'm personally a little funny in that I love cities but gravitate towards smaller ones. New York is a little too big for me to went to spend an extended period of time ther, but Chicago and DC are favorites. I tend to dislike suburbs, but love love love rural farm land and small towns.

As long as what I need is within walking or driving distance and the people are descent, I don't care. I generally like cities better though.
12/05/2011
I used to think I HATED cities, would never live in one, etc. Then I moved to a city of about 4 million and really got used to all the perks that went with that. Now that I'm temporarily back in a town of 2,000, I can't tell you how much it sucks to drive 40 min to the nearest Target when you're used to having anything you can imagine within 10 minutes of home!

I like medium-sized cities. Not too big and not too small. Big cities are fun to visit sometimes though!

I enjoy living in a lively place, though when I visited New York City this summer, I found some of the more central areas to be waaaay too crowded for my tastes. It was hugely uncomfortable, though I enjoyed my stay in a slightly more rural area.
12/07/2011
A little of all three. I like being here in the suburbs and being able to drive to a rural town or city.
12/07/2011
I like medium to large-ish cities. It's great fun to be able to walk everywhere and see actual foot traffic.
12/07/2011
I like being in a rural area where it only takes fifteen to twenty minutes to get to a city. Not a big city but somewhere with a mall, home improvement stores, entertainment and restaurants. I live in the middle of the woods with no neighbors and I LOVE it. Twenty five minutes to civilization is a bummer though.
12/08/2011
I like the city or the country, but not so much between. And I like smaller cities because they're usually cheaper! I mean, there are things that I love about New York, and if I could live in San Francisco, I'd be SOOOO happy. But it's so freakin expensive. it's like I find 2 conditions totally soul-sucking: the suburbs, where you can't really get to either nature or bustling cosmopolitan spaces without commuting a long way; and the city, where there's so much to do, and it all costs a bunch of money you don't have because you have to spent all of your money just to have a place to stay. They're both stifling in different ways.
12/08/2011
Everything but the burbs for me, thanks.
12/08/2011
So hard to pick! I love the mountains -and- the beach
12/08/2011
I dislike cosmopolitan living. I'm in a small city out in the suburbs, it's officially a city, but still has the small town feel. I love the rural areas for its green pastures and mountains, but it's a bit too quiet, and too far away from everything.
12/08/2011
My choice: no one around in miles and miles and miles and miles, only you and your love, and your own world!
12/24/2011
Rural, nobody around anywhere if possible.
04/09/2012
A nice, small town in the mountains with a lot of woods nearby. Cities make my social anxiety act up, and I turn into Norwegian barbecue if I stay on a beach for too long.

I'm a little weird, I want to either live in a huge city; such as DC or NY or L.A. or in a rural-ish setting. preferably NOT one in the south; more like an escape retreat in the Bahamas or something haha. I don't like suburbs. The authorities are usually assholish (in my experience) and the people have a lot of "clique" behavior e_e ; again in my experience.
The activities available in both also play a huge role. There is usually little to nothing to do in the suburbs except school, church or other activities like that or (if you live on questionable areas) gangs. Rurual areas you can have more space to do things; have horses or lots of dogs, garden etc. Big cities are full of social life; clubs, bars etc. all without having to travel too far as one would probably have to do while residing in the suburbs.

I just want to get out of this country and find me an island to live on! It is my main non-sexual fantasy.
04/16/2012
Depends on if I am visiting or living. I love living in the suburbs of a big city, but I would much rather visit a big city than a smaller one or a rural area.
04/16/2012
I like a smallish town that still has conveniences like nice restaurants and shopping options.

I spent some time growing up in the midwest but most of it in the South, which is where I am now. I tend to really dislike the South, generally, for a various reason, but actually kind of like my state (most days, anyway). There's good music, food and lots of horses, at least. And you can drive from the beach to the mountains in 5.5 hours which is kinda cool. That said, I feel like I'd really love living up north, from sea to sea. Love the north western states, the north east and those cold-as-fuck midwestern states up top. Wisconsin & Minnesotta here's lookin at you!

IDK b/c I haven't traveled anywhere but the south. I live in Arkansas and I've been to Mississippi, Tennesee, Alabama, Georgia. the farthest I went was Washington DC in high school but we flew so I don't know what the landscape from Arkansas to DC was like.

I'm not really sure what I like. I hate being in Arkansas because of the people and 'cities', but going out in the middle of nowhere with friends is wonderful! Not many other places I could do that...

@ Cherrylane, do you live in Virginia? Because I do, and I live halfway between the mountains and the ocean, in a large but not too large city, etc. Just wondering if we're neighbors.
@ having to decide favorite region. I really like Virginia -- I mean, despite the fact that it's crazy, but isn't everywhere, really. But I also like it because it's near my family, etc. I think if I were just free as a bird, I'd live on the west coast, somewhere between Santa Barbara and Portland. I know, it's a big area, but a girl can dream! I bet a lot of people, though, have 2-3 favorites that they'd evoke during different life situations.

I live in the northwest, love the northeast and haven't spent a ton of time in the south but I know a bunch of people from there who I love and I LOVE some of the music. I listen to WWOZ New Orleans radio all the time!

I love every part of the united states. no matter where I am at. Sometimes the weather is what I don't like.

All of them are special.

I've had good experience with all of these that I've been to, but I have to pick NE and SW. Along the coast, of course!

I lived in the South East for a bit, but it was way too hot for me in the summer. I grew up in the North East, so that's where I am most comfortable, although I'd probably do well in the (non-southern) West coast, as well.

I was raised in Delaware, depending on who you speak to, that's can be either North East or Mid East...or not even a state because some people forget we exist. I would now happily go back and spend the rest of my life in that tiny little state. I'm not a huge fan of North Carolina.
I'm a fan of visiting Cities, but I'm not sure I'd want to live there. I've always enjoyed living in the suburbs because of convenience. I also am okay with spending like it rural farm areas, but know that if I can't get to think easily that I'd get bored or frustrated.
Not really sure about mountains or beach, I don't do well in the sun, nor do I like sand. But I've also never been on a mountain really.

East coast, in general.

Midwest, I've always lived in Wisconsin. People in the Midwest are in general more polite from what I've seen.

I love me a southwestern sunset shining behind a mountain range.
I also have a better sense of direction with mountains.
