Yesterday, last night more specifically, was a very sad day. I decided to share this with everyone, since this was a difficult moment for us. Hubby and I had to euthanize one of our fish, after having just lost two! It was terrible, and I was up all night feeling awful. Sure, he was just a fish, but he was our fish for about a year. Apparently, one of our fish was a carrier for TB, and was asymptomatic for just about a year, and then all of a sudden, he got lesions on his body. Our guppy caught it, his spine started to curve but we thought he had another problem, and he died. The, the carrier died, and then our algae eater became sick! He had this awful rash and couldn't breathe or move at all!
We wanted to put him down with clove oil and vodka (the most humane way), but it was too late and no stores were open. And I had to do the deed with a brick We were so sad! BUT as someone pointed out on a message board he was posting this on, at least we know we aren't sociopaths!
So, have you ever had to put a pet down using a method that wasn't conventional like that, for their own good? To put them out of their suffering? It is such a sad thing to do, if you are attached to the pet.
