Video Screencapture Software

Contributor: Kayla Kayla
Hello Edenites!

I'm actually thinking of doing some neat things for EdenBloggers where I do a video tutorial of how to do the things that I'm explaining. With that in mind, I'm wondering if any of you know any video screencapture software that is free-to-use? This would be software that would basically "video tape" my screen and hopefully, if possible, allow me to do a voiceover of the content at the same time.

Any suggestions? I have absolutely no idea where to go to even begin to look.

That's a neat idea, I wish I could lead you to something that would work. I can only think of using a video camera. I am intrigued and will be looking to see what you and others come up with.

A few years ago everyone my age used Hypercam, there was a free version that just added a little tab at the top of the screen saying "Unregistered Hypercam". I dunno if there's a copyright conflict, though, we were all kids...

Hmm. Thanks! I'll look into it.

And Dwtim, I have the camera to use, but cameras video-taping computer screens usually looks pretty darn horrible, and I want people to be able to easily follow instructions.

Maybe you should try CamStudio. It's absolutely free. I didn't try it, but I heard some positive feedback.

I have no experience with this type of software, but here is a list of free versions of video capture software listed at CNET.com sorted by editor rating and by user rating. Hope that helps.

iShow does. They used to have a free version, but I'm not sure if they still do.

I've wondered about this too. There were times I could've really used it for tutorials!
