TV on all day?

Contributor: Bignuf Bignuf
We tend to switch on the TV as soon as we get home. May just be for background noise, but there is ALWAYS a TV on in the house...rarely a radio.

Anyone else just automatically turn on the TV, even if not watching?

Sometimes. Like if I'm working from bed I'll have the TV on for noise during my nap and I'll leave it on during the day. Or if I nap from the couch in the morning, I'll leave the TV on while I work. Most of the time unless I'm planning on watching it at some point, I leave the TV off.

No, I have children, so we try to regulate the TV time.

The TV is nearly always on in our house in the afternoons and evenings, not so much during the daytime.

I usually only have the tv on if I'm sitting and watching or cooking and watching. I knew a family that literally had it on all day and at first I thought it was so strange and a waste. No one would even be in the room and it would be on. Eventually I realized how cool it was they did that. It was always on a classic movie channel, and because of that their family had this shared love of old black and whites. They were always quoting, cracking jokes, and having conversations that my generation generally wouldn't understand. It was really neat that they shared that.

I used to like leaving it on, listening to the TV while I'm working in the kitchen, but I've changed that bad habit to conserve energy nowadays (it's a 50" screen).

Nope. The TV's on only when I'm concentrating on it. Otherwise, I won't waste the electricity.

We hardly ever have the tv, or anything else, on. But my husband's parents (who I live with) have the tv on all damn day and I hate it.

No, but then again someone's always watching the TV, so it'll be on most of the time.

sometimes, like when I am on line. I can listen to the tv while doing business online.

I treat the TV like a sound machine. It helps me fall asleep.

My TV is on most of the day. I only turn it off when I leave the house.

I'd go crazy! I just turn it on a few times a week when there's something specific I want to watch.

I hardly ever watch TV at all, probably only when watching DVDs. But at my parents' house it's always on, my Dad even sleeps with TV working.

I watch TV all the time whether its on in the living room or on my computer. So, yes I turn the TV on even if its just for background noise.
