Unfilled! Now you have me craving donuts! Gee thanks lol
04/17/2011
I hate creme fillings!
04/17/2011
I loooooove fruit or custard filled ones. Not the cream though, that's too sweet.
04/17/2011
Unfilled. I'm not a fan of cream or anything inside.
04/17/2011
We make our doughnuts with holes in them. Then we sell the middle bits separately as one-bite doughnuts, or, "Timbits". That's the Canadian way.

Timbits? I love that. Obviosuly I should take a jaunt to Canada... ya know... in the interests of research.

Plain old glazed krispy kremes are my fave!

Filled. I'm a fan of Eclairs.
04/18/2011
The only filled donut I like is Boston creme.
04/18/2011
I picked don't make me chose, also curse you for making me this hungry.
04/18/2011
Unfilled yeast doughnuts win every time. Or those pumpkin cake doughnuts that come out around fall. YUM.
04/18/2011
It totally depends! Some flavor combinations just won't work together and others are great.
04/18/2011
cream filled - no custard or jelly!!!

04/19/2011
Both!!!!!!!!!! But especially filled... but still both
04/19/2011
just a good fresh chocolate donut is the best
04/19/2011
I like both. For filled doughnuts, I like more of a custard-type filling than a jelly or whipped filling because the jelly and whipped fillings are too sweet for my taste.
When I want something that is unfilled, I absolutely LOVE a fresh maple-frosted doughnut. Though I love chocolate, I am extremely picky about chocolate frosting on doughnuts. Most doughnut places have a terrible chocolate frosting that they use on their doughnuts, so when I find a place that uses a good chocolate frosting, I appreciate them that much more. I also love strawberry frosting as long is it is not overly sweet as some strawberry frosting can be.
Oh, and powdered sugar doughnut holes are also fantastic!
The very, very, VERY best doughnuts I've ever had were at Round Rock Donuts, which is located outside of Austin, Texas. They are hand-rolled, homemade yeast doughnuts that have a unique appearance when you bite into them: the dough is naturally a light orange! If you ever visit Austin, I suggest you make a trip to Round Rock, a little suburb that is very close by, and get you some of the world's best glazed and chocolate-frosted doughnuts, preferably while they are still hot. Their doughnuts are incredible and unforgettable.

04/18/2011
Must have a chocolate croissant now...
04/18/2011

04/27/2011
Apple fritters!!!! They're made with real apples so they're a logical healthy counterpart to the donuts I'm already buying and totally justifiable!
04/29/2011
Copenhagen! Although fritters and Crullers come very close...
05/09/2011

05/11/2011
Doughnut Holes

The secret is in the hole.

07/16/2011
donut holes..specifically the chocolate cake ones..mmmmm!
09/25/2011
doughnut holes.. or as we like to call them in Canada... TIM BITS!

Donut holes!! Gee thanks now I'll have to force my husband to bring a dozen donuts on his way home from work.
06/07/2012
I'm not sure if this qualifies as a distant cousin, but sweet gnocci pieces are delicious.
06/07/2012
Eclairs
06/07/2012
MUFFINS. Namely the gigantic variety, chocolate with chocolate chips.
06/08/2012
so may choices, but the holes hold my vote

Begneits! Preferably from Cafe du Monde. Drowned in powdered sugar.

Deep fried apple fritters or even oven baked ones. You can't go wrong.

04/17/2011
I usually buy at the grocery store. But donut stores usually taste better.
04/17/2011
Winchell's, I have not seen one for years but they has some of the best.
04/17/2011
I picked Krispy Kreme because that's who we have here, but I am also partial to Dunkin' as they carry strawberry iced doughnuts that I cannot find anywhere else... at lest not here in my state
04/17/2011
I usually get Krispy Kreme doughnuts. There's a semi-local place called The Fractured Prune that makes really good doughnuts that I really like, too.
04/18/2011
Really? Am I the only one who liked Dunkin Donuts?
04/18/2011
I picked Dunkin Donuts because they are the ones I have easy access to Krispy Kreme is too far away.
04/18/2011
Thanks for such a thorough discussion on such a wonderful topic
04/18/2011
There is a local chain called the Fractured Prune that hand dips fresh made donuts. Morning Buzz (Mocha glaze with Oreo crumbs) is nom nom!
04/18/2011
I like Tim Hortons or Dunkin' for donuts, but if you're talking other pastry-yum, check this place out.
04/18/2011
I often like the local bakery or grocery's bakery best. But I'll eat all makes!
04/18/2011
DOUGHNUTS ARE SO GOOD.
Lemon icing / boston creme... Lemon icing / Lemon filling.... Chocolate icing / boston creme .... glazed.....
MMMMMMMM.... Great.

I don't have a favorite doughnut shop around here, but where I grew up the Jelly Doughnut was where it was at... so many good doughnuts!
04/19/2011
Absolutely Krispy Kreme, especially when the hot light is on!
04/19/2011
Timmy Ho's is where its at in the great white north
04/19/2011
Dunkin or Yum Yum or whatever is nearby. Tesco also happens to sell amazing filled donuts for a euro, just so y'all know if you're ever travelling across the pond.
04/19/2011
Nothing better then the place right down from my house cuz they were always fresh
04/19/2011
Piece of cake- Dynamo Donuts. I like their molasses Guiness pear, passionfruit milk chocolate, candied orange blossom, and bacon maple apple.
04/19/2011
local gas station, they have the best filled donuts
04/19/2011
Costco has bitchin' muffins and croissants. I could live on those things and I kinda did at one time.

Krispy Kreme ARE delicious, but there's only one near me and it's hours and hours away >
I usually buy my doughnuts from Timmys or Seven Eleven. I've yet to find any in the local bakeries, but they do have other delicious desserts.

Kwik Trip has amazinggggg doughnuts:-D

In NY, Donut Plant for the win!!! (on Grand near Essex) Seriously, it's worth making a special trip there. Also around the corner you will find the Pickle Guys who make the best pickles I have ever eaten in my entire life. LES
In Vancouver, Brekka (open 24 h. at E. 49th at Fraser) Their apple fritters are particularly huge and delicious

I like peanut butter filled, chocolate icing. I've never SEEN one, but I know I'd like it. Yeast > cake, unfilled > filled, unless the filling is peanut butter or chocolate icing. Nothing with custard @_@ Oh god how I hate it.
05/09/2011
Tim Horton's!
05/09/2011
I love it
05/09/2011
Dunkin' Donuts
05/11/2011
There aren't too many good donut places near me that I'm aware of so I usually just end up at Timmie's. I do adore their new amazing caramel donut, though. Yummmmmmmm
05/11/2011
Try Donuts Delite in rochester, NY... Or come visit me in my hometown of Williamson, NY and while you're at it, visit our grocery store and buy donuts there!
That is, until I open my bakery. Then get em there!

Voodoo doughnuts...maple bacon doughnut.. so good.
07/05/2011
If you have a voodoo doughnuts near by you have to try them. If not theyre worth the drive! Take a doughnut vacation where all you eat is doughnuts all day! Lol. You can diet the next week.
07/08/2011
Krispy Kreme is a little too sweet. I like the local (mom and pop) doughnut shops around town!
07/08/2011
Krispy Kreme is the best! All of the ones near me have closed so I'm stuck with Dunkin', it's just not the same. They're too dry there.
08/22/2011
Dunkin' is the BEST!!!
09/14/2011
There is a place called Le Cave's Bakery..so delish. It's been around since 1935 here in Tucson

The local place -- Tallac Village Donuts -- is about as picturesque as you can get. And the donuts are fucking fantastic. I don't know what they put in the chocolate icing, but I think it might be ambrosia.
09/30/2011
I love all my local spots, but krispy kreme is my favorite
12/01/2011
Krispy Kreme is absolutely fabulous.....when the light is on letting me know that fresh doughnuts are available I can't resist! Doughnut Plant in NYC is absolutely top notch as well. Soooooooo rich and delicious!!!
12/07/2011
You've officially made me want to walk my ass to the store to buy a dozen doughnuts, lol!!!
I LOVE Top Pot donuts, I didn't choose it though, because I only like them fresh from Top Pot, not from starbucks(yes there IS a difference, freshness factor, unless you are at a starbucks in seattle) I also love a whole ton of mom and pop shops that make the most amazing doughnuts I've ever had

Chicago has mostly Dunkin Donuts and they suck. Miss the independent shops in the bay area.
01/02/2012
Alas, I can only vote for the grocery store because that's the only place we have in this small ass area to get 'em.

Voodoo Doughnuts, in Eugene and Portland, Oregon, is awesome.
01/16/2012
I prefer local bakeries for doughnuts and pastries. They tend to make the best ones. Not big on krispy kreme, they tend to be kind of soggy from all the sugary glaze whenever I have had them.
01/18/2012
I'm a sucker for Krispy Kreme!
02/20/2012
local shop. closer to my house
02/20/2012
Either krispy kreme or local bakery for me.
06/07/2012
I go to the grocery store since their doughnuts are cheap and good for dunking.
06/07/2012
Krispy kremes.
06/07/2012
Fresh, hot Krispy Kremes are amazing!
06/08/2012
Nothing beats a hot Krispy Kreme right off the conveyor belt. Unfortunately the nearest KK is about a 20-30 minute drive from here, so a donut run usually means we're going to Dunkin.
06/08/2012
I just buy em where i can
06/10/2012
I get mine at the grocery store.
06/10/2012
Oh dear God. Krispy Kreme. O_O I would willingly let Krispy Kreme be the death of me. Oh so willingly.

I always scoop out a local place wherever I live. At the beach there is one place that makes everything from scratch. That is always the best! Though kripsy creme has great glazed. Dunkin Donuts has better donuts that aren't glazed!

I miss living in a state that had Krispy Kreme and not just Dunkin Donuts.
