The 6 Dumbest Things Schools Are Doing in the Name of Safety

It's not very often that I get angry when I read something, but this article made me see red. One part of it made me laugh (the whole prison suit thing), but 2 of them really made me mad. The people who run our schools can be real dumb asses. link

WOW... I'm not even sure what else to say. the tickets are ridiculous... I don't mind the prison suits as much... but giving elementary school children tickets and fines..... REALLY???

All these are ridiculous! I would not let my kid wear a tracking device or an ankle bracelet; can we say "Big Brother?" (From the book 1984, not the stupid reality show.) What would that cost? And you know the cost is taken from dwindling resources that are necessary for academics which is why children go to school. At least it used to be. Now schools are used as training grounds for Professional Sports teams, Ersatz day care centers, and substitute parenting centers.

When parents STOP expecting the schools to do their jobs, mainly wanting the schools to raise and take care of their kids full time (school is 6 hours a day, if mom wants to be gone from home more than that it is her and her children's father's responsibility to have someone take care of their kids, NOT the school districts) , instead of educating them and stop suing schools for horrible mistakes like allowing "other" kids to eat peanut butter sandwiches or suing schools because kids "fall down go boom", then maybe this stupidity will stop.

This "take care of me because I can't be responsible for my own spawn" bullshit has gone far enough.

I thought it was bad when they banned Tag at my daughter's school. "Mom, everybody plays it anyway, we just call it something else." At one point the school tried to then "ban" "running around on the playground. WTF? We're so worried about kids not getting enough exercise then we ban running? Maybe parents taking some personal responsibility for the kids THEY Chose to bring into the world would be a really good idea. Or the schools simply saying, "It's your kid, deal with it."

Let kids be kids, stop worrying about minor things and stop expecting the schools to do the parents' job, and this will end things like these silly rules.

Wasting money on tracking devices is just dumb. Writing tickets sounds actually harmful. Why not just do a demerits/detention thing instead of handing it off to the police. If an adult college student can rape another and instead of having the police rightly handle it the college can do their own investigation/trial, then an elementary school can handle one kid swearing at another without involving the police. The ban on touching is stupid because it bans good touch along with bad. Humans are social creatures and we use touch to communicate. We hug friends, put an hand on an arm to emphasize a statement, shake hands to say hello. Babies who aren't held enough suffer from a condition known as Failure to Thrive, and we don't grow out of skin hunger. Simple, casual touch does affect both mental and physical health. Banning all touch implies there is something wrong with it, and I don't think that is a good lesson to be teaching.

I like how most of this is being done in Texas. Go ahead and let them form their own country - they certainly act like an Eastern European Fascist block.
