Tattoo locations and pain

I'm considering getting a small tattoo at the back of my neck and I'm wondering just how accurate this is!

How painful is a blowtorch, exactly?

That's an interesting chart. I can tell you that for me, the area at the top of my foot and by my ankles hurt like hell, although I don't have any experience with a small blow torch to compare it to lol. Knowing that crying and/or passing out while getting the ribs done is expected makes me feel great about not crying and just mostly whining while getting my ribs tattooed. We're almost up to my shoulder! I can tell you that the back of the neck/behind the ear area hardly hurts. Like, if you scratch your scalp really hard, but behind your ear instead. The one behind my ear it hurt my ear more from it being folded over lol. The back of your neck may hurt a little bit more than that, but it won't be too bad, especially if it's small.

Good luck, and what are you getting (if you don't mind me asking of course)

I hope no one has that much experience with blowtorches to compare it to!

I'm going to be getting a small outline of a lion, something to remind me of Holland.

I have one on the back of my neck. It didn't hurt AT ALL. Seriously. It was quite relaxing. The one on the top of my foot hurt in certain spots. Not unbearable though. The one on the inside of my wrist hurt the worst for some reason.

I heard the inside of the belly button was really bad. I got one on the inside of my wrist were the veins are. That one hurt and was hot!

I have one on my chest that did not hurt either. Maybe that was because I had a bottle of wine. Back of the neck did not hurt either. Now the top inner part of the thigh hurt! I did those myself!

My friend recently got a tattoo at the back of her neck and said it hurt a lot less than expected

It does depend somewhat on the person doing it too. Some people have heavier hands than others. Which you will notice. The outline hurts the worse. Hurts even more to have to got back the next day. I went back to one of my tattoos the next day. Oh baby was it super sore after that.

If it is small it will be over before you know it. It is nice to have something to get a tense grip on during. When I had my neck done I sat backwards in a wooden chair. I would grab the chair when it was painful.

Everyone's different. I've worked in several tattoo shops and had a lot of tattoo work myself. I've seen big burly dudes cry while getting their ribs and armpits done, but I fell asleep for mine.

I would say the back of the neck isn't the worst. The palm of my hand was the worst, followed by my ankle bones, alkalies tendons and shin bones.

A general rule of thumb is that the the less fat there is and the more densely packed the nerves, the worse it will hurt, but EVERYONE is different. We each feel pain and pleasure differently and there's no way to predict how badly a spot will hurt, or not.

Thanks for the responses! I've heard different things from different people, but since it's going to be small I'll just bite the bullet and go for it! We'll find out in time.

I have experience with torches, a tat feels nothing like getting burned with one. With the torch you do not feel the pain at first, might be due to shock, but the pain comes later.

Mine are both on my upper arm, they felt like a sharp razor cutting through my skin. It was not unbearable but during the first one I did black out. When I went back to get it colored the guy told me not to watch and just focus on something on the wall. Worked like a charm for that one and the next.

I have 1 on my back shoulder by the bone in a not very fatty area and it barely hurt. And I have one on my ankle..that hurt like hell..I kept wanting to kick the guy so it must of been on a nerve.but I will say that the more detail you get the more you will feel it because they have to keep stopping.ones that they can keep going on goes numb after a few minutes!good luck!just remember to get something you like now and in 50 years because its not something you can just wash off!

I have one on my foot and that one was by far the most painful. I have one on my lower back and when it hit the center of my spine that area hurt the worst on that one or at the very outer edges of my hips. I have two on my shoulders which didn't hurt in the black but when the coloring was done kinda did for some reason. I've heard color hurts more than black which was true for me. No idea why that is.

I don't think any of it was nearly what a blowtorch would be. I didn't cry or pass out for any of them.

That's really curious! I wonder why coloured bits would hurt more.

If anyone would have experience with a blow torch, it would be you, Tim! Thank you for the insight.

Fairly accurate, I suppose, but on my foot the most I got was a stinging sensation the first time, and with the second tattoo, on places were the tattoos overlapped, a slightly worse sting. I was fine to walk and I didn't cry or anything and I am extremely sensitive to pain, typically. But it also may depend on the tattoo artist.

For me, the color hurts the least, and the outline hurts the most. Also, even after multiple six-hour sessions, I've never, ever, not even for a second gone numb, so don't count on that.

Wow, what a chart! It's rather disconcerting actually. Not deterring though. I think everyone's pain tolerance is different. I know several people who had tattoos in similar locations and all had very different experiences of the pain level.
