I briefly considered it but I don't think I'd go through with it.
Tatoos-Do you or would you?

I have considered the same one for at least a year now (brown recluse on my shoulder blade, side (torso), or thigh). Before I do it I want to know exactly how I would be able to remove the tattoo later in life. I figure if the removal methods change, they will improve unless someone discovers that one is poisoning people. When I'm much older, I'll probably not really want it anymore.

I have a bunch of tattoos. I did consider what they might look like in my later years, but it didn't impact my decision. It will be a reminder, or story teller or my younger years.
Besides, I'll be very, very lucky to live to 60, let alone 70!

Yep. Have one on my lower back. I got it there so it'd be discrete. I don't want them to be always visible. I actually got it years ago and I did consider the fact of being old and it being funky looking, but heck why worry about that? Mine is only there for sentimental meaning. A family member and I got the same one and last december she was murdered by her boyfriend whom she had a child with. The only way her body was identifiable was by that matching tat. It was heart breaking. She has 3 kids (2 of them are my nephew and neice. She died in the most horrifying way I've ever heard of. She was killed on the road where I worked. Quit there, but I still have to drive through there often. I decided to have my tat covered. I kinda wanted to keep it for it's meaning, but I only think of her death now. My uncle worked at a tat shop where I get all my piercings done and I went there to have a new tat drawn out. I am hoping to have it covered up before this december comes back around. It of course won't change anything, but it'll be less depressing and the new one I have designed will represent newness to me at least. I chose a specific design with a specific number of stripes to represent the toughest things I'v ever gone through. 4 things. I love the idea of tattoos with meaning, but wouldn't display them all over me. I wouldn't like a tattoo that didn't have a story behind it. Even if I'm the only one who knows the story. I don't worry about the future. I try not to spend my time worrying over things like that. I just hope when I'm 60 I'll be rocking my new tattoo in style! Lol Doubt it'll be sexy, but at least it won't be visible at all times.

I have 1 tattoo. I want to get another but have no idea what I want yet.
07/20/2011
I want one, but my tastes are just too fickle for me to get one that I know I'll be comfortable with a few years down the line.
07/20/2011
I have considered getting a few different ones over the years, but always settled for piercings instead. There is one that I want that I have wanted for four years now. Since it's been so long, I'm sure I won't regret it. It won't be seen unless I'm in a bikini and so it won't matter what it looks like when I'm 70. I'm more concerned with professionalism than what it will look like when my skin isn't as tight. I want my tattoos hidden under professional attire and not have to wear long sleeves, high collars, pants, closed shoes etc. to hide them.

I got a tat on my hip when I was about twenty and everyone said "You know that will get ruined if you get pregnant" and I said "I'm not going to get pregnant any time soon" and didn't think it was something worth thinking about. I got pregnant before the year was over. The tattoo isn't totally ruined, it's just in a different place than it was before. I want more tattoos though. <3

I've got four and have plans for one more, but it's not being done any time soon.

I'm going to get two dragonflies, one on each shoulder, near my collar bone and maybe scatter a few tiny ones around.
Hopefully in the next few weeks I'll have them.

Three and I regret them. If I could safely remove them and there would be no scarring or ink left, you bet your bottom dollar I would. There have been times where I've been so distraught over it that I considered doing very drastic things.
But, it is what it is and will forever be a badge of stupidity. YAY GO ME!

I have three very, very small tattoos currently. I have plans on getting much larger areas of work done. I definitely consider what they will look like in the future, but I also believe it will be "normal" in the future. Right now we all think it's off to be 70 and covered in tattoos, but that only because people of that age now didn't get them when they were younger. Things will be different as younger generations, that embrace body modification, become older.

I have a 'two year' rule about tattoos; after I come up with the concept I have to wait two years, and then if I still want it, I'll get it! I'm getting my first one next month(It'll have been a little over two years I've wanted it) And I have one I've been wanting for about 6 months now. It's so hard to wait, but it's so worth it!

Not a tattoo person
07/20/2011
I've never wanted to get a tattoo.
07/20/2011
I really want to get one, but I just want it to be something I can look at for forever and be ok with it. My fiancee has a number of them, and they are cool.
07/20/2011
I love mine . And when I'm older,I'll just be old with tattoos .
07/20/2011
I have two tattoos. I have several more planned. I love getting them, I love having them, I can't wait to get more!

I have one tat and am planning a few more after the baby stops nursing. Bf has a bunch and is working on more. Since he is a tattoo artist it works for him and he can do them himself as long as he can reach and see what he is doing. I have thought about what they will look like when i am older but figure by that age I really wont care.
Funny story
I had a friend who was a nurse/home health aid she told me of this time she was helping this older woman bathe and there was a black line on the inside of her thigh so she asked what it was. The woman said oh that is my tattoo I got many years ago and stretched the skin so she could see it and lol this little line tattoo turned out to be a two paragraph tattoo of a bible scripture it was hysterical

I've often thought about getting a simple one, like a crescent moon or paw print, on the back of my neck. That way, I can easily cover it with my hair if I needed to. It'll be a while before I do, though, and I've never really been able to decide just what to get.

Okay...I know I am swimming against the current on this one, but I don't have one, don't want one and...here is where I get in trouble...don't find them attractive on others. A far more compelling issue is the fact that the chemicals in ink are not regulated and some contain serious toxins. There is the issue of skin damage and finally, yes, when you get "older" and have "Tat Regret", you get to pay a LOT more money having them removed then when you put them on...but hey, my kid is a plastic surgeon and after buying that expensive laser, she needs the business!!!!

Seriously curious....WHAT is it that you "love" about them? Even the fact you said they are "on your back" means YOU cannot see them. So...please explain, what, exactly is the part you "love"? I seriously don't understand. I have an open mind, but would really like to hear from someone who has a different point of view, why they do this Tatoo thing. Thank you.

I've given really serious thought to a tattoo in the last few years, but I still haven't settled on something that I'm diehard certain I want on my body permanently. I'm also determined that if I get a tattoo, I want it on my lower arm or leg so others can see it. I don't want to hide it!
If you told me today that I had to get one, then my two favorite ideas are a line of Dylan Thomas poetry ("Do not go gentle into that good night/ Rage, rage against the dying of light") or Longfellow (I LOVE him and pretty much every line of "A Psalm of Life").

I'm seriously addicted to tattoos and if I had the money right now, I would be working on my sleeves right now (that's right, I said sleeves as in plural). All of my tattoos (3 in total) are very big and very visible, so I take care to make sure they're looking they're best at all times.
I have given some thought to what they might look like in the future but not a lot. Most days, I forget they're there until I look down at my forearms or if I catch a quick glimpse of the ink out the corner of my eye. Then I utter the words, "What the hell is that? oh yeah.. it's my tats."

I never found the thought appealing.
It's like hanging a picture on the wall of your room, and then learning that you can never hang a new picture or move to another place.

For me, it's being able to use my body as a canvas to showcase artwork I love, even if I can't see it all of the time. I have tattoos on my back, and I can see them when I look in a mirror. It's more about knowing that they're there for me than me having to be able to look at them all of the time. I can decide when they show and I can decide when they need to be covered. A tattoo should be for the person who's wearing it, and not for the general public. So on the back where the wearer can't see it all the time doesn't matter, because it's still there.
