I used to be a tanning bed addict. During the last few years I have had a few spots on my body removed that were precancerous (thanks to my tanning days!). I now use a self tanning lotion that works fantastic. No, it does not give me an ultra dark tan, but it gives me a nice sun kissed glow, which I much prefer over skin cancer!
Some people are against it. Some people are just orange.
Tanning - what's your take and how do you do it if you like it?
If I were to tan I would probably only use those self-tanning lotion things.
Both tanning beds and the sun can be bad for you if what we learned in health class is accurate.
I'm addicted to tanning beds. I would sleep in them if I could. Good thing I can't afford to or have much time to tan any more eventhough my appartment's gym has one.

I only tan outside WITH sunscreen. I used to go to tanning beds regularly a month or so before summer and then I read an article in Cosmopolitan magazine about girl my age that did this and long story short she got cancer and died in her early 20's. It all started with a little mole that didn't look like a problem even the picture didn't. But that scared the hell out of me enough that I don't go. My dad's side of the family is Lebanese with my great grandma being full blooded and my other great grandmother full Cherokee. My mom isn't sure of her background (nor is my grandma really) but she isn't pale. I'm pastey as can be but tan easily in the summer. I hate that I didn't inherit the darker complexion but I'd rather be white as hell than get cancer from a tanning bed or tanning outside without sunscreen.
As for spray on tans, they don't look natural to me at all and I have better things to spend my money on.
I don't find it pretty at all when someone does it artificially, but no offense, it looks good on a few people, and it doesn't mean that you are not a good person... I just find it very funny and not nice at all... ^^
I don't tan at all. Every bit of my background is populated with Nordics who turn into Crispy Critters in the sun. I already had several second degree sunburns as a kid, and so now I cultivate my lily white computer screen tan.
I freckle a bit when exposed to a small amount of sunlight, but for heaven's sake, I got a sunburn in Ireland. IRELAND! 3 non-consecutive days of sunshine in two weeks, and I burned the skin off my nose (even though I was wearing sunscreen).
i hate laying out b/c i can't stand to lay there for so long, even w/ music. i just get bored. i might lay out 2 or 3 times in the summer, but for the most part, i don't. i have slightly darker skin than most people anyway. i don't do tanning beds at all b/c they just turn people orange. i've never had a spray tan, but if i ever did, i would do research 1st to find a place that actually does a good job where you don't come out looking like an oompa loompa.

MOST tanning beds are incredibly bad for you. I think they use the harshest UV rays in the spectrum. I never understood the point to it really. I would rather look albino white (which I don't) than ever step into a tanning bed.

I'd love to tan, but alas I only burn and then go reflective white again. Sometimes only the upper side of my arm burns making me strawberry vanilla. LOL!
Just read an article on how anything above SPF 35 hasn't been proven to be more helpful. Just an interesting tidbit you might like to research since higher SPFs tend to be more expensive.
I tan a little when I go in the sun in the summer, but I am mostly Irish, so I would never even consider going to a tanning salon. I would probably just burn to a crisp!
