So today, a conversation with my mother about sex opened up in such a way that I thought "hey, why not?" and revealed the kind of work I do for Edenfantasys. She was obviously a little surprised, but quickly recovered and laughed saying "Well, why haven't you gotten my a vibrator yet? A good one, I don't want a crappy one!" I laughed along with it but I get the feeling she was sort of being serious but just wasn't sure if it was okay to put it out there that she was interested. We talked a little while longer about it before my 16 year old sister came in and we had to change the subject, but she seemed relatively knowledgeable of basic toy stuff and pretty comfortable with the idea of toys. So what do you think? Should I get her an Acuvibe or something? What kind of vibrator do you even get for your mother?
SUCH a weird day!

If I felt comfortable enough with doing that I'd totally get my mom one! She is pretty old fashioned though so I think it would be difficult to bring up.

I've given my mother a couple of vibes. I guess if you've already had the conversation, then ask her if she knows what kind she likes.
07/24/2010
I'm so envious of your situation! I wish I had the opportunity to open up to my mom like that. If she knew, I'd definitely get her an AMAZING vibe. Something powerful, and classy. I'm thinking Lelo, or maybe a Freestyle. She loves music.

That's so sweet! I do not know what I would get my own mum..I'd have to know what type of stimulation she likes in order to get her something, you know?
07/24/2010
Wait for the Christmas coupon and get her a Mona? It's even red for Christmas!

LOL I know, I was thinking the same thing. We're very open but...I don't think I'm open enough to ask her *exactly* what kind of stimulation she likes. I don't know, for me that crosses over into squick territory, although I know some folks could probably comfortably ask their mothers/guardians that. I feel like I should get something that is multi-purpose so she can have some options?

Awesome idea! I agree with Splendwhore that is should be powerful and classy, and the Mona might be perfect! Maybe I'll just save my pennies and splurge for it.

Sure, why not? Maybe something clitoral, since every woman likes clitoral stimulators. Maybe a SaSi or LayaSpot or Lily?

I would go with a lelo vibe too! They're classy, powerful and pretty. Plus, you gotta love that pretty packaging perfect for gift giving

I would totally get her one from that conversation. I would get one from Natural Contours or Jimmy jane. A sleek classy one.

I hadn't considered Jimmy Jane, but the Little Chroma would be perfect because of the replaceable motor. Hm...seriously considering that now!

Why not take her shopping here? That way she can see all the great vibes. Who knows maybe she would like to be a reviewer.

Oh, that's a cool idea. But yes, based on the conversation you had with her, I'd say go for it. that's very cool that you can be so open about this with her.

I would be inclined to give her a Magic Wand, the gold standard of vibrators, but then that's my solution to everything.

I think if she has already mentioned it whether in jest or with truth behind it, you should try asking her. If you are uncomfortable, try treating it as if someone on EF was asking for your opinion on what to get. Hope that helps.

My mom knew that I was part of Eden before I told her...dang cookies. We talked a little bit about it, nothing specific, just "At least you're doing something you enjoy and is fun!"
I don't know if I'd actually get her something...maybe a gift card or something.

Why not just get her a gift card? Then she can get exactly what she wants without you having to cross any comfort zones by asking her.
07/25/2010
You have such a cool mom! Definitely get her something.

I thought of that, but knowing her I think she might be really overwhelmed by all of the options and may end up picking something that isn't right for her. A lot of toys look pretty but don't work so well, and some are ugly (Wahl much?) but work wonders. I feel like I have a pretty good sense of those toys.

Haha, trust me, the Hitachi is definitely being considered. My only concern is it's so bulky and the cord is a pain. I feel like the Acuvibe Mini might be a great surrogate.

If you're comfortable with it then do it!

My mother is way more open with me than I am with her, but I stumbled across her new crappy vibe (Eden doesn't even offer it, whatever it was) in the linen closet and I hinted she should really find somewhere a little more discrete. Thus began a very open conversation that was not quite as horrible for me as I expected it to be. Turns out, my father got it for her because it's been a while since she's tried one and she doesn't care for it; after some severe injuries she got in a car accident, her nerves aren't right down there and she can't really feel anything until it starts hurting. More than I wanted to know, but it makes me sad that I'm planning on buying all these toys and she can't even enjoy the one she has
But, yes, if my mother told me she wanted me to buy her one, I'd be absolutely horrified, but I'd do it.

Get her an Acuvibe (or Fairy) and the Ella - now that's a great intro to sex toys! But, yeah, the Mona could be pretty great too. I think she'll be happy with whatever you choose

Awesome! but get a good one w/o any further discussion. The Mona or the Ella as Victoria mentioned should bring her pleasure.

wow i don't know what I'd say or do if my mom asked me that! But I think you should get her something!

Ya know, the Laya Spot is an awesome gift vibe, especially for our mom's generation who may not have seen anything like it before. (Though my mom is likely older than yours - in fact, your mom is probably not much older than I am. Lol!)
