Stress ...how do you handle it?

Contributor: RedGlitter RedGlitter
Hi!
Okay, we are ALL stressed, one way or another!

However, some things have been piling up for the last...year, and I am so stressed out that I get depressed and worries cloud my mind all the time!
Sometimes, I can barely sleep...terrible.

Now, I'm not going to go on meds for it; my problems exist, and while some people NEED medication, I'm not one of them; I just need to get my life in order.
Has anyone ever felt like everything is falling apart?
What special thing do you do to calm down and relax (obviously, no "stimulants", please!).
All I can do is stop and breathe for a minute before I get back to the task at hand...sometimes, I feel like screaming! GAH!
Okay, I vented... for now!

How do you handle stress?

tell me about it. I'm a huge stress ball that refuses to take medications for it too.

I like to take baths with a good book, maybe go to bed earlier than usual and get some extra sleep.

Exercising can help, but not always.

Otherwise I try to check things off my to-do list, no matter how much I don't want to to them.

Can you get away for a weekend or better yet--a week? Sometimes just leaving and staying somewhere ALONE is the best time out you can give yourself. I know after a hiatus from my life I am much more equipped to handle all the issues. I also make lists: --What can I do to resolve, --What is out of my control, --What is worrying about ??? going to help, Then the resolution list: --baby steps, --then bigger step, --problem solved!

This is not a magical fix but if I can scratch a few items off the lists then I feel like I am helping and can see daylight at the end of the tunnel. I seem to be the fix it person for my family so it is their problems I get roped into as well.....

Getting more organized helped me so much! Buy a planner and USE IT. Don't feel like u have to commit to everyone by saying yes. Do only what u can do on a day to day basis, and don't look more than a few days into the future. This will ALL make a difference, trust me. Oh, BTW, my shrink gave me those tips! AND THEY WORK!!

I eat! And when I am being responsible, I exercise, go for a walk or play games to relieve the stress.
