Stop stealing my pills!

I take Adderall so I can function. I'm a total mess without it.

I refilled my prescription the about 2 1/2 weeks ago and . . . I only have about 4 days worth left!

By now I should have taken 36 singe getting them filled. I have 9 left which means they gave me 45 instead of 60!

It's a controlled substance so I don't think they can give me what they owe me! Meanwhile I'm screwed for a week! My doc just wrote out my new script but usually you can't get that filled until a few days before 30 days since you filled your last one!

Has anyone ever been shorted by the pharmacy? What about on a controlled substance? What did they do for you?

It sucks because Adderall is something that people abuse the hell out of, meanwhile people like me need it to function and I probably can't get what they owe me because of that. Ugh!

Yes. I've had this happen with my pain meds. I have a contract with the pharmacy that they have to count the pills IN FRONT of me, or let me count them, with a pharmacist present, to make sure I don't get shorted anymore. It happened more than once and it was always the same pharmacist... hmmmm. I have my favorite pharmacist at a small privately owned pharamcy and usually go in when I know he'll be on duty and will count my pills for me.

They did believe me when I said I was shorted, and once the pill counting machine messed up and crushed my pills and the pharmacist didn't catch it until after I called.

You are within your rights to have the pills counted and bottled in front of you.

I use a privately owned pharmacy, as I was having too many problems at chains like Walgreens or KMart.

Call your doctor and let him know what happened. If nothing like this has ever happened before and you don't have a history of overusing your meds, he'll probably help you out.... once. From now on make sure your pills are double counted, and then counted in front of you. Make sure they are then bottled and put into a stapled bag in your presence.

I go to a local medical center and I've been incredibly happy with the service there. They've always taken care of me and done everything exceptionally well. I just hate that this happened. The shitty part is that my script just got upped from 60 pills to 75 and if I get it filled at the end of the month those 75 pills will only get me through that last week instead of increase my dosage. Agh. I hate everything right now.

Can you talk to your doctor and see if he can do anything? It so nerve wracking to run out of meds.

If not, can you go back to the old dosage until next month? Hopefully, something can be done. Usually they're more likely (the pharmacy) to believe you if you let them know right away. If half a month has gone by, they might think you were overusing them. It depends what kind of relationship you have with them. If you always use the same pharmacist, and he trusts you, you may want to talk to him, but you MUST not accuse anyone of taking the pills. Assume it was a mistake. Accuse a pharmacist of stealing pills (even if you're pretty sure he did, like what happened to me) and it's over.

Good luck. Try to stay calm and talk to the right people and it should work out.

Part of the reason may be because of the nationwide Adderall shortage. The DEA has limits on how much can be made and it's been hit. Most pharmacies have limited quantities if they have it at all. To fill my last script I had to go to TEN pharmacies to get it. Some would say they had 15 pills and could give me that, but then I couldn't go anywhere else to get the remaining pills. So that wouldn't work. If that's the case, they should have informed you ahead of time that they didn't have enough pills to fill the full script.

I would call them and explain what happened. Ask them what can be done about the situation. If you have a long history of taking the med and not trying to get more than what's called for, they may not have any issues. Or they may say they're out completely and then you're kinda SOL. In which case I would call your doctor.

Luckily my doctor is there at the health clinic I go to with the pharmacy and everything.

I'm about to call and see what the hell is up with this or if they'll let me go ahead and fill my new script early or if my doctor can give me an extra 15 because of the shortage.

Scary. I've been on Adderall and never had that happen, but I would be very upset if it happened! I really need to get back on it, but I don't have a doctor willing to prescribe it right now. :/
