Do you do "Spring Cleaning"? This is something that has run in my family for what seems like forever... Generations and generations. Even my great grandmother did it, along with all her children. Usually the first week of February we were taught to go through each room in our home and throw away/donate/sell things we didn't need. We threw a garage sale at the end of the week and whatever didn't sell we gave away or sent to good will.
I still do this now that I'm married and my husband finds it to be so silly. He doesn't mind the idea of getting rid of things we don't need, but he laughs at how ritualistic it has been. Even before we were married, I did it in our apartment. I would take all of our things over to my parents and sell it at their garage sale.
I find it to be helpful. Keeps you away from hoarding! lol
