Do you own any solar powered items in your home?

Which are you pleased with. Which are a waste of time?

I bought a few solar flashlights. I keep them by my windows. They work great. However, I bought a solar charger for my riding mower, and another solar battery pack and after a few months, it won't hold a charge and the one on the mower doesn't charge the battery much at all. I personally think solar is a great idea, but the technology is just "not there yet" for anything major around the house.

What's your take?

I think solar technology is there now, but to get it right, it is expensive. I have solar landscape lights, and they actually work very well. I would love to put PV panels on the house, but it is cost prohibitive. I did have air-to-air panels on the house, and they worked great, but then they started leaking when it rained, and I couldn't find any one to repair them, so I sadly pulled them off.

We have one solar flashlight/radio/usb device charger thing that works pretty well...I can even get it to charge the cell phone, but it takes a lot of cranking or hanging outside waiting for melanoma/EEE and, or West Nile Virus to get more than a few minutes battery.

I've also got a few of those little solar powered toys (a dancing sunflower and a dancing bear)...and one solar powered vibe that are all pretty decent for what they are.

I've done some research into it, and going 100% solar power certainly isn't an affordable option for many, but it does hold some promise.
I like the idea of being "off the grid" as the saying goes.

No but I have debated buying some solar powered chargers for when I go camping.

I have some small solar powered items lying around, like calculators, but we have decided against getting solar panels for the house. Despite living in a sunny area, it would be more trouble than it's worth. We had people come out and give us estimates, but we'd be spending much more money maintaining the panels than saving on electricity. We'd love to "go green", but it would just be too costly.

Nope. We are in an apartment so we cna put nothing on the building itself. I have no problem with solar power as long as it works, has a market, and isn’t funded through stolen property aka. taxes. - C

I'd love to be able to supplement my home's electrical needs with photovoltaic panels, but those and the other required accoutrements are just far too costly.
