I have 3 ball pythons as pets. they are not for breeding, but are simply pets. when I tell people about them, a majority are grossed out. how do you feel about snakes as pets? how do you feel about exotic pets? examples?

I don't think it's gross, it's just not my thing. I like to have a pet that I can cuddle with which is why I have dogs. I think people should get the pet that they think will make them the happiest assuming they are able to provide a good home for it.

I think snakes make for great boots and belts!

I definitely don't think it's gross. I used to have reptiles as pets when I was younger, but I guess I'm just more of a cat and dog person now.

We have always had pet snakes! For some people it's just not there cup of tea.

Just teasing...I used to make that joke to one of my exes about his boa. He used to make me go to the pet store and pick out the mice to feed the thing! I did not like that. I felt like I was a murderer. I know they were just little rodents, but they just looked so innocent

I have a phobia of snakes.
You want me to freeze up and emit this horrified squeal of terror? Anything snake related will do.
So if my roomie ever tries to bring home a snake for a pet, as soon as I'm done pissing myself in fear, it will go right back to the store.

I've taken care of many snakes and while they are quite interesting, I don't think they're necessarily the best pets.

I am sorry, I really don't care for snakes, I'm afraid of being bitten or choked. I don't have an issue of ppl having snakes. I don't think it's ok for ppl to make me want to hold there snakes.

Snakes creep me out. But I think it's understandable when AU has 6 out of the worlds top 10 deadly snakes.
We once had a green tree snake slither in underneath (it was slim) the front screen door and almost into my bedroom. If it had of gone in there, I'd never have gotten it out from under my bed.
The damn carpet snakes use to eat my Bantam baby chickens. NOT HAPPY!
I live on a dirt road and didn't notice a King Brown snake sun baking. Fortunately it took off cause those things kill more humans than any other snake over here.
I don't care what the law says over here, if it comes down to me or the snake - the snake will die!

I always wanted a snake as a pet. They don't really freak me out or anything, but I've never felt like I could provide a consistently good home for one. And at this point I want something I can cuddle with, so mayhaps cats for me.

I am not scared of snakes but wouldn't want one as a pet.

I know some people stick to the "the type of pet you have reflects you". I don't agree with it though.
I will admit though, I find it funny when someone's 20' pet snake eats them.

We all love snakes in our family. We've had lots of lizards, water animals, mammals, etc. We have garter snakes all over our property and neighborhood. My middle daughter loves snakes (she used to carry around garter snakes as a small child and frightened neighbors still call her to take snakes out of their basements and bathrooms (Moonbeam the Exterminator!)
Our only problem? None of us what to feed them pinkies or full grown mice. (Pinkies are baby mice, so sad.) Crickets wouldn't bother me, as we used them for our lizards (except the Iguana, because they are supposed to be vegetarians, and the one time my husband put a cricket into her tank for a "friend" she ate it) and frogs, but snakes grow and then you have to feed them pinkies and none of us have hearts hard enough to do that to baby mice. So, no snakes for us.

My boyfriends dad breeds snakes. I love them, they are so much fun to watch and hold.
I have pet tarantulas. They are a bit more low maintenance which I like. We have 2 right now but we are thinking of getting a few more.

We have Chinchillas. So I'm OK with exotics. Snakes are NOT my thing though!
09/15/2011
I don't have a problem with exotics, I myself currently own exotic pets and have had a variety over the years. I think it all depends on why you have the exotic pets and how you obtained them. Some people do it as a status symbol, and I do think that's wrong. I also do not believe it is appropriate to support the breeding and sales of any animal nor the poaching industry. There are lots of rescue groups for exotic animals that are always in need of a good home, and rescued animals are always so grateful! If you can afford to care for them properly, and have the knowledge and know-how to keep them happy and healthy, then I think they're better off with you than with someone else who can't care for them properly.

We can not wait to get our pet snake. Finally are going to be able to afford to get one! YAY, we are animal crazy!

I had 2 snakes, a ball python and a corn snake. I loved them they were awesome. I re-homed them before I moved from Colorado to Texas because I was worried about the effect of the stress on them with moving. I will probably have snakes again at some point.

I don't have any snakes, but I have no problem with them as pets. What bugs me is when people get large exotic animals, such as iguanas and pythons, and free them into the wild when they no longer feel like taking care of them.
I am a rat lady, actually.
