Did you ever have a Slam Book?

Contributor: SkylarrStarr SkylarrStarr
I had a Slam Book in 6th grade (1991ish)...it was a nicer version of the Burn Book from Mean Girls, but they got banned from my school. I want one now to fill out with my adult friends! Can't find one, though. Anyone else have one of them as a kid?

My friends and I had one and we would also put what we thought would happen to them later in life (for example, end up dropping out, end up addicted to drugs, end up pregnant and the guy will ditch them, etc) and a LOT of them turned out to be correct lol. Ours, though, unlike the one in Mean Girls, was sorta reversed. We put people in there who messed with other people and were rude to them lol

I've seen them around when I was in school. I was afraid to find out what was written about me, as I was the favorite bully target.

I hate stuff like this. It's so unnecessary and just downright rude. That's one thing I liked about Mean Girls, when the tables were turned...

I think they are cruel. I wouldn't participate in such a thing.

I guess it depends if you were a "Mean Girl" or one that the Mean Girls tortured when you were young, how you feel about abusing other people.

I'm intelligent and opinionated. Where I grew up both those things were enough to get your tormented. I prefer not to act like a 6th grade girl. I'm an adult.

I'm ... more
The Slam Books we had were more like favorite song...cutest boy...nicest hair...that kind of thing. They were not mean spirited at first...it was some of the people filling them out that turned them that way and ended up getting banned. They were intended to be a way to find out more about your friends and classmates...

That's why I would want one now...the Burn Book was probably a bad analogy, but it's the closet thing I could compare it to. I'm not a Mean Girl, kids...

Yes...I was a target of bullies as well, and didn't like when the books were misused. It made me angry when mine got filled with some unkind remarks. It's a shame that people can't just have fun with something without being rude. I also didn't mean to offend anyone with this post, as it was not my intention to find a Burn Book and bash people with it. Sorry if I upset anyone!
