Shavers. Do you throw away your old NON disposables???

Contributor: Bignuf Bignuf
We use our shavers..a lot, at our house. We both stay....very CLEAN shaven, shall we say. SO, besides my facial shave, I want a GOOD shaver, with nice, fresh blades.

We were using Gillette Fusion Power shavers for the last two years or so...till they just came up with the PowerGlide. I was not sure it was any different, but had a coupon and so I bought it. By the way, it works AMAZINGLY well...face and other places too.

However, when I opened my bathroom cabinet this morning, I realize I have shavers that date back to the 70's!!! Handles I will NEVER use again. Twinblades, and Triple blade thingies I am not sure they even make blades for.

It is just SO hard to throw away stuff that is NOT "broken". I am determined, however, to toss these tonight after work. Nuts to keep them all.....of course, now that I am paying $31 (with a COUPON) for eight replacement blades, I guess those old shaver handles are kind of a keepsake...a reminder of a less expensive and happier world!!!!

Do you also have a closet or cabinet full of unused, or never to be used again shavers or other such cosmetic devices??? (We also have about six old, never to be used again BLOW driers. Those are going to go too).

I use the Proglide as does my guy, and we use Fusion when we can get the blades. They do come with a set of changeable blades, you just press down on the nubbed button behind the blades and it pops right out, leaving you with what looks like a little stick or shaft where the blade was. Then, you just buy the cartriges of blades, and pop one right on by pressing down into the cartrige with the little stick end of the handle.

I love those razors!

I don't have any razor handles that are that old, but I do have one or two that are a few years old now.

I have about 3 or 4 Venus handles, the handles are not expensive but the blades are. I also have some Intuition handles. I used to use Intuition a lot before I did a lot of pubic shaving. It's just too big to get into crannies, so I only use it when I'm out of blades for my Venus.

I have one or two old electric razors lying around. The shave they give is so weak and the hair grows back so quickly and they PULL that I don't use them.

I use the Schick Hydro5 for men. freaking LOVE it!!

But yes, if I have handles for shavers that are older, I tend to throw them away, but I take in account: will I use it again? did I like it? did it work?

However, most of the time, the handles are icky and gross so I throw them out in the name of hygiene.

I'm using that same razor, made the switch from the Shick Quattro that I loved. The Hydro actually makes it super easy for me to tell when I need to change my blade because it doesn't leave behind that super smooth feeling anymore when it's done. The Quattro I think had a strip too, but I'd still end up using it long after I needed to change it.

I've gone through and thrown out handles for things I won't use again. I do keep a Quattro around just in case, but otherwise I've gotten rid of all the rest.

I do. Especially since some of them no longer have refills that are sold.

Also, if that particular shaver doesn't work well for me, I will trash it and try another one.

That's what my guy uses too. WAY more cost effective. like $10 for 5 replacement blades, and it works great! I use disposables, but very nice ones- Venus Embrace. Love them.

I've had the same non-disposable razor since 2006. I just change the blades.
I thought that was the point of non-disposables.

Yes! I love that about the Hydro. The blades are SO expensive, but the quality of the razor is so worth it. Every now and then CVS will have a buy one get one free sale on them so I get 2 4-packs for the price of one.

Oooooooooh, I'll have to keep my eye out for refills. I'm starting to run low. We ended up with like, 4 of these razors I think because one of the places my husband buys car parts from online sends random things like that as a free extra for advertising I think.

When I find something that works, I tend to stick with it. I only have one handle that I don't use anymore. The main reason is because it's metal and I don't like the weight of it while I'm shaving my legs. I use the Schick Quattro brand.

Oh that's awesome! I got a free razor from the community college I used to go to once. I don't even remember what it was, but I remember standing in line at the bookstore to pay for my books and they were going through the line handing us free razors.

I use disposable razors from costco, I am cheap. I had a nice non disposable that I used for years, but the blades became way too expensive to replace every few weeks. So I get get cheap ones now.

If you have a bunch you have not touched in years, toss them. That is my rule around here. If you have not touched something in more then a year, its time for it to find a new home.
