Sex Too Young?

I think that people under the age of 16 are too young to be having sex. I know that in their own minds they are mature enough, but people change a lot in their late teens/early twenties. Too many young people nowadays have sex without fully understanding the possible repercussions.
Taking the (in my opinion) worst case scenario of a 16 year old getting pregnant; even if they were responsible enough to care for a child, and I think that is unlikely, they would have a VERY difficult time making enough money to do so. Some people are lucky enough to have their parents around to help them out, but some aren't.

Way too young to realize all the responsibilities, the risks (pregnancy, disease...just to name a few) and, oh, it is illegal. WAY too many downsides and as for the "satisfaction" or "fun" aspect...there is plenty of time for that later, and it will, believe it or not, be FAR better, later, when you are really ready and with the RIGHT person.

personally, i think 16 is too young to be having sex. mostly b/c most people at that age still don't understand the emotional aspect of having sex. it's risky behavior for 16-yr-olds. but that's just my personal opinion. i have a number of friends who had sex at that age, & most of them have regrets about it & had wished they had at least waited until they were older & more mature.

I agree, 16 is too young IMO. I don't think a 16 year old can handle the emotional aspects or the risk of disease and especially pregnancy.

I lost my virginity at 15 and I turned out ok! No diseases, rape, unwanted pregnancies, or emotional trauma!

I think it comes down to a case by case basis. In most cases I would absolutely agree that people having sex under 16 are too young to be able to think it through and plan and be safe. But I was the 15 year old who knew that because I wasn't on birth control, sex without a condom wasn't an option. So we always used condoms, even after I was on birth control. Some 15 and 16 year olds can handle the responsibility of planning for things that might go wrong. I still think that 15 and 16 is too young to be having sex, but it's starting to become the norm it seems like.
