I have been suffering from some severe back pain for about 3 weeks now. The first week, I went to the after hours clinic in town and they told me nothing was broken and if I was still in pain in a week to check in with my doctor. Well, I ended up out of town that week, still in pain, so I couldn't make the appointment. Now, week 3 I'm trying to get an appointment and my doctor is out of town. I'm in so much pain that I can't even work. I've been taking Ibuprofen and Flexeril but they aren't helping. My boyfriend has been giving me back massages and putting icy hot on my back but to no avail. Anyone have any suggestions or even reasons for this pain?

If it is a shooting pain it might be a pinched nerve. When you get better or maybe even now go to a Physical Therapist. I had terrible back pain but he gave me some pointers about how to stop it from happening.

For now I would just lay on the floor with your feet on a chair. Look up the positions online. Hope it helps.
Or a hot spring.

Go see a Physical Therapist immediately. Back massages done the wrong way might make it even worse.

Look into trigger points. That's my problem and I've been struggling with disabling mid-back pain for about a year (with no end in sight).
