Due to "lack of room", NYC Police Officers, Port Authority Police Officers and FDNY Firefighters are not "invited" to the 10th anniversary of 9/11 at Ground Zero. Funny- they weren't invited on that day in 2001, either. They just "showed up" and became our heroes.
September 11, 10th anniversary. This really agravated me. I wanted to know what other members thoughts were. I feel it's a slap in the face to everyone who worked to find the survivors.

Exactly who else is invited, that they're not allowed to attend?

I'd like more details and some links. Do you have links to the place that said this, and exactly what were they "not invited" to?
From what I heard, the things going on at Ground Zero have Fire Fighters from not only NYFD but many cities.

CNN ran this story about a week ago. I don't remember all the details as I heard it while making dinner, so wasn't paying full attention. But you may be able to find something at CNN.com

9/11 First Responders Not Invited To 10th Anniversary Ceremony At Ground Zero Here is the link to the article I read this morning about it.

This is fucking horrible. First the city denies that the huge spike in lung cancer diagnoses and DEATHS in first responders in the years following 9/11, as well as serious respiratory issues, are related to the dust from the collapse. Even though those of us in the area have SEEN the diagnoses and SEEN the deaths (a friend of mine lost his father, who was a first responder and never smoked in his life, to a sudden diagnosis of lung cancer within two years of 9/11). They pretend it's not happening. Then, it denies that those first responders should be entitled to any medical treatment compensation or assistance. Now this. It seems like the city is perfectly happy to use the firefighters, police officers and other first responders in emergency situations, but leave them out to dry otherwise.
I really love the state of New York, but something has to change in our political administrations. It is so horribly corrupt.

This statement came from NYC Mayor Michael Bloomburg. It has been all over the media; major tv networks, newspapers and the internet. I was there within hours of the first plane hitting the world trade center.

From what I understand, that specific ceremony is full of people, with a lot of families of those who died.
There is another ceremony geared towards emergency personal, to honor all of them, the following day. They also had a special religious service just for FDNY.
You can't fit every single person who wants to go down in the area. It would be nice if they could attend, but not reasonable. I think the second ceremony more than makes up for it.
The hospital staff who cared for the injured don't get their own service. Should we start campaigning for that too?

they should have been one of the 1st people invited along w/ victim's close relatives & survivors.
09/10/2011
I feel that it is wrong that they were not invited but I am glad that they have a ceremony to honor them too. It does make the situation a little better.

These Police, Fireman, EMT's, Paramedics and soldiers have lost there lives attempting to save the lives of others. This is my deffinition of heroism and I feel that these lives that were lost in saving others should not be over looked!
09/10/2011
I believe they should be honored in some way - and if that's through a separate ceremony, that's great. But leaving them out completely is a rude slap in the face of the rescuers who worked so hard that day.

I was on active duty in the Army stationed in Europe during the fifty year anniversary of the D Day invasion. For the anniversary celebration we were not just not invited, we were specifically ordered not to go. We were told it was because there were limited accommodations and the surviving participants were given preference. Would I have liked to go? Sure but it just didn't work that way.

so wrong.
09/11/2011
You're right. I love that you said "they weren't invited on 9/11, but showed up and became heroes." That was very touching. Lol. I think every single person should have been invited if they contributed in any way, even if it was just a hug to one who lost a family member. I'm sure they could've MADE room for those people.
09/11/2011
That's horrible! What is this world coming too? Seriously.
09/11/2011
I feel like I'm missing a lot of information to determine whether or not this is right or not. I voted it wasn't, but I'm a little unsure. Are they saying the group as a whole isn't invited but those who actually became heros that day??

It seems sad, but I am assuming if any of them lost family members they'd be welcome and they will have an other ceremony later for first responders.
I do believe the spikes in lung problems, multiple cancer diagnoses in the same people, and other health problems are a direct effect of working on the Pile. But, in this country, health care is a "privilege" (I don't agree, but that's what we are told by SO many who make the laws and say NO to Universal Health Care.) I guess even if you were willing to sacrifice everything for your country and to help others. Sad sad sad.
