Selling Assignment Items on Classifieds... Appropriate or Not?

Contributor: Breas Breas
I thought I'd bring this question to the community because I'm unsure of the "ethics" of this decision. I remember seeing a thread posted which discussed the ethics of selling the "free gifts with purchase" on the Classifieds and the general response was "tacky and no" (I agree with this by the way).

My question is a bit different though. I'm wondering, if you were given an assignment (which means you received the toy/product free), but the toy really didn't satisfy you, would selling it on the Classifieds for a deeply discounted price be okay? Of course, assuming the toys can be sanitized, etc.

The two toys I was thinking of selling was the FOU and the Nea. The FOU is a great toy, but I'm a power queen and it just doesn't cut it for me. The Nea, which is gorgeous in every way, does not produce the deep rumble vibration that I need. I figured that if I'm not getting any use out of them, maybe someone else could?

So my question is:
If you had a toy that you were assigned (aka: got for free to review), but it didn't cut it for you, would you sell it on the Classifieds?
Also, I'm wondering the price I should sell them for since I got them for free. The FOU is $99.99 so I was thinking like, $25 plus shipping? Is that too much?

Alrighty, sorry for the novel but I'd really love the advice of other members on this.

Thanks!

I think it's fine to do whatever you like with a free assignment. You received the item as compensation for writing a review. It is yours to do with as you wish. As for price, I think it's whatever you are comfortable with and someone else is willing to pay. Depending on how popular the item is and the condition, I'd say ~40% of the retail price would be the max you could get.

If you're not sure of a fair price, you could always request best offers. Or maybe propose a trade for a sterilizable-used toy (or toys, or lingerie, or books, etc) of similar value.

I agree it is fine to sell assignments and a fair price to me, would be about 60% off. Plus shipping.

Well, when you think about it, what are your other options? Keep them without getting any use out of them? Toss them out? I think it's fine to let other people have an opportunity to try these luxury items (or whatever else you choose to sell) at a discounted rate.

I think it's fine too...as Ms. N says otherwise they are going to just sit around or you may throw them out.

I think it's fine. I mean, after you write the review it's yours to do whatever you wish with it.

Thanks everyone for the responses. I figured it would be fine too but I wanted to hear the opinion of the community before I did anything. I appreciate the help everyone, thank you!

I totally agree with what they've said, as long as you write a thorough, honest review of it Eden has gotten what they asked for in exchange and you can toss it in the fire or sell it for all they care! I usually sell things at about 30-40% of the original price in order to get an offer on them, but I also ask for paypal and not GCs. I sell my Jopens usually for $45, and I sell $70 toys for $10 or $15. I think that it also depends on how badly you want to get rid of it.

This is something I've thought about as well. I felt like it might be frowned upon, so reading everyone's positive opinions on it is starting to make me change my mind! Thanks!
