Only once, I watched the first 5 episodes of American Horror Story in a row one night, and my boyfriend wasn't here that night, I slept with the lights on and a bat next to me (yea, cuz that'll save me from the ghosts)
Ever been scared/freaked out badly enough that you slept with the lights on?
10/10/2012
No,I can't fall asleep with lights on as it is.
10/10/2012
No. It has to be pitch black for me to be able to sleep.
10/10/2012
Absolutely, whenever I see a spider in my room I'm up all night.
10/10/2012
yep but its been awhile.
10/10/2012
YES!!! in my defense tho i had just lost sight of a spider in the room....

I have slept with lights on. Which is a bit embarrassing, I'm a guy! I should be able to handle some scary thoughts, haha.
But I have blue Christmas lights strung up above my bed that I'll turn on. They aren't bright, and frankly, a softly blue-lit room can be relaxing! Or even sexy if that's what you're going for. I don't just turn them on to ward off the scary monsters, I also turn them on when I just want to lay in bed and relax. I also turn them on when I want to be turned on, if you know what I mean ;D
But that's a story for another time ^_-

I sleep with a nightlight every night.

I rarely get scared. Up until last week, I hadn't been scared in years. I watched a couple episodes of Paranormal Witness and I had a little trouble sleeping Saturday and Sunday. I left the TV. I wasn't so much the dark, but feeling alone. I'm over it now though but I was shocked that something finally scared me after all these years.

I hear scary stuff from people more than actually watch it, so with an overactive imagination ... yeah. I have a clip-on desk light that I attached to the headboard, so I twist the neck back and that dims the room enough to sleep, but gives me the assurance of light in the room. I eventually turn it off, though, sometime in the night.
10/10/2012
Yes. I try not to watch scary movies, because even if I'm not scared during the day, while I'm watching them, I get creeped out when it gets dark.
10/10/2012
Yes, I scare myself really easily, and it doesn't help that I'm terrified of the dark.

A few times. We've got a few spirits hanging around our house, and- while their presence doesn't usually bother me- there's the rare occasion that they do something that actually creeps me out.
There was one night that I looked out into the room next to mine (around 2 years ago) and I could see someone standing at the window, looking down onto the driveway. I was too scared to sleep in my own bed that night, so I (at 20 years old) went to sleep in my mom's bed with her. lol

That's so creepy... but also really cool. I've had a few experiences with the supernatural/unexplain able myself. Such as whispers behind a door in an abandoned house, but an empty room on the other side. And on a different occasion, the doorknob on that same door jiggling and slightly turning on it's own, being locked at first, then more jiggling, then it was unlocked with, but again... no one was on the other side.

But by FAR, the scariest and most amazing experience I've had was in a small town I lived in during my first 2 years of High School. When I say small... I mean, my class consisted of only 9 PEOPLE! It was an old mining town in Arizona. Supposedly it was a bustling boom-town in the frontier days, thanks to its rich mines. Anyways, The streets are really creepy at night, and they seem colder than the area surrounding the town as well. I always thought that was odd, and I know "cold spots" are related to an otherworldly presence by "experts".
ANYWAYS. I was walking through the town late at night with one of my friends, and right in the middle of the road, about 60 yards away, we saw a ghost/spirit walking towards us. We stopped and watched, both out of fear and curiosity. It was glowing in a sense that I can't explain, it's like what you would expect a blacklight to give off, if it was actually possible for the color black to give off light.. It's hard to explain. As it got closer, I could make out a few details. He was carrying a lantern in one hand that appeared lit, but gave off no light. And in the other, a stick that was rested on his shoulder with a sack tied and hanging from the top (like the ones you see in pictures and cartoons of old-timey hitchhikers)
It was odd though, even as he got closer, I couldn't see any more details. I could tell he had a large hat, and what looked like suspenders... But I couldn't tell anything about his face or what (if any) kind of patterns were on his clothes. It was like looking at a blurry old black and white picture.
Once he got to about 20 yards away, he disappeared. And it wasn't like a slow, dramatic, vanishing into the mist type thing. He was there one second, and then just gone the next. Even after we couldn't see him anymore, my friend and I just stood frozen and silent for a good two minutes before we both looked at eachother. My friend put his hand over his mouth in shock, and I started to tear up. Not because I was scared... But it was just such a powerful experience that I couldn't help but cry.
SO! That's my story that probably ZERO people will read. But I don't get to tell this story much and felt like sharing. Reply or send me a message if you're skeptical, or just want to talk about more crazy stories

No. I can't sleep with lights on...and I need my sleep.

Not often, but it has happened. Oh, I forgot to mention: I ALWAYS sleep with lights on! LOL. But only because about a year (maybe even longer!) ago my bulbs kept blowing every time I'd turn out the lights. Couldn't find the problem, but I did find a solution: NEVER turn out the lights! LOL. It's worked, but now I'm pretty used to having lights while sleeping. However, on vacation in August, I slept with all lights out! It was weird, but not a bother at all.

So, how about you? Every been scared badly enough that you needed the lights on to get to sleep? less

I think if it weren't for me having to keep my light on, I'd prefer sleeping in at least dim lighting if not total darkness.
But as for being scared, yep. I've scared the lights out of my ownself. Lol. I don't remember the last time I really scared myself just from overactive imagining, but it's happened. I don't watch TV almost ever, so that doesn't cause me issues. I do read thriller books and they never scare me that badly, but do give me nightmares some. Lol.
I think my biggest way of scaring myself is my own thoughts rather than TV. If I did watch something horrible like say, that damn Hills Have Eyes! You bet your sweet ass I'd be scared. I already keep lights on, so I guess I'd just have to also put my lamp on. Lol.
Mostly though, if I've been awake way too long and am lacking serious sleep (or if I'm taking anxiety/pain meds) I tend to get a little paranoid before falling asleep, especially when I'm alone. I'll start freaking out about dying in my sleep, which is mostly due to me being so extremely tired from exhaustion/lack of sleep or back when I needed them, the meds. So I'd feel so tired that I worried I'd never wake up when I did pass out. LOL.
Some horror stories I hear will scare me awake through the night too.

No. I do get scared, but not that scared.
10/11/2012
yes I have...I know what you mean! I watched a lot of season 2 walking dead one day and I was freaked when I took out the trash last night...I was almost convinced that zombies exist! lol

I avoid scary shows or movies because of this exact reason lol I'm a scaredy cat!
10/11/2012
Now and then, but mostly only if I hear a lot of odd sounds outside or if I've just watched a really scary movie and I'm still on a bit of an emotional high (so to speak, essentially if I'm still in a somewhat fearful state) from it.
10/11/2012
If I'm too freaked, I just avoid sleep. I think it has something to do with my delayed sleep phase disorder..

maybe when I was a kid
10/15/2012
Never.
10/15/2012
Yes! Usually because of horror movies I watched.
10/15/2012
Yes, I have nightmares that leave me shaken and needing the lights on.
