Room mates

Do you live w/ room mates? Do you get along? I would like my room mates if I didn't live w/ them. I've lived w/ strangers & w/ friends & have concluded that I just need to live alone.

I have had my share of roomies over the years. So far, I'd have to say I live best with women. I don't know why for sure, but it's just seemed to work out better that way.

I like rooming with men. Women room mates always borrow my clothes, boots and bath products. In one case this girl borrowed a pair of $200 boots and tore them up. She refused to pay me for them, so I threw her out. Right now I room with a man and its OK except that he is a slob, but there are much worse things to be!

DEFINITELY been there. I refuse to live with room mates now unless it's like- sharing a duplex (where we each get our own side). Otherwise you just get too much in each others' space and you can wind up ruining the friendship, or just generally being miserable in your own home.

I live with 2 roommates. They drive me crazy, but I think if we had a slightly bigger place it wouldn't be half as bad. The apartment is meant for 1 - 2 people tops so it's a little crowded with three. I don't have any place that's "mine" so when I need to get away from them there's no where to go except out of the apartment. My one room mate does absolutely nothing to help out around here. He eats and shits and showers like the rest of us, but he will absolutely not do a dish or take out the garbage or buy toilet paper. We already told him he has to go and I can not wait until he's gone. Which is hopefully soon!

I have a roommate now, and we usually get on fine. Which is to say we almost never talk. I rent the room, and she owns the house. I can't stand it. I have never liked having a roommate. She was gone for the last week, and it was fantastic. Now that she's back, I'm back to feeling trapped in my own room. I really, really want my own place, but I just can't afford it right now.

I had a roommate for the first two years of college and had two very different experiences. My first roommate and I got on as best friends and had a pretty great year with only a few disagreements. My second roommate and I got into a few huge fights and eventually split the room so we didn't have to speak to each other unless in dire emergency. I can't imagine having a housemate and dealing with all of the extra shit (people not doing the dishes, etc). The only person I plan on living with again is my partner, and even that's going to have its ups and downs.
