We had been considering this recently, just to freshen up or update the house a little bit. The hardware is starting to look a little dated. I counted the number of door knobs, hinges, light fixtures and pieces of bath hardware that would need to be replaced. After doing the math, we decided to live with it a while longer.

Yes--I love the antique crystal or glass knobs and have added them to our doors to replace the modern looking metal ones.

No I haven't but I'd like to. Baldwin makes some beautiful acorn door hinges that I'd love to have.

The only thing I have replaced before is light switch covers. I did not do this in the place I am in now, but when I move I might put them back on.

When we were first married and pretty poor, we did this in our first home...and made it a "year long" project. Every paycheck, we bought three or four hinges and just replaced them as we went along. It actually became about a two year project...but about half way through, they stopped making the hinges and knobs we were using, so we had to find another that looked close enough to pass!

In the right type house, that can look very elegant.
