So I was really hungry at home, and I haven't grocery shopped in two weeks. Pay day is tomorrow so I thought I would try and work with what was left.
All I had was:
1 Bag of Kraft Macaroni & Cheese Homestyle Mix
1 Jug of Milk
1 Stick of Butter
1 pack of pepperoni (about 50 slices)
1 Pillsbury Pizza Dough (comes in a roll)
About 1/2 a bag of cheddar cheese
Salt
Pepper
Rosemary
Ranch Dressing
So I thought to myself, wouldn't it taste really good to have a macaroni & cheese pepperoni calzone? We had pizza last night, so I was thoroughly bored of it already... But oh, so hungry today!
Preheat your oven to 400 degrees ahead of time. About ten minutes in advance. Check your dough package because the degree setting may be higher or lower.
Directions:
1. Follow directions and prepare your macaroni & cheese. Use half the amount of milk so that the cheese isn't too runny.
2. Lay out the uncooked pizza dough so that it lays flat on a greased pan of your choice. Glass or ceramic pans seem to work best.
3. Dump about three cups of macaroni into the dough so that it covers HALF of the dough, leaving one half of the dough untouched by any macaroni.
4. Now peel apart the pepperoni slices and lay across the macaroni so that it covers the entire pile of macaroni.
5. Dump half a bag (or however much you want) of cheddar cheese across the top of the pepperoni. This will help it stay in place while you bake it.
6. Life the empty end of the dough over the filled end to create a calzone. Make sure to either take a fork and press around the edges, or twist and squeeze the edges so that they stick together and don't pop apart in the oven.
7. Using a little bit of the butter, spread it over the top of the calzone to add flavor. You can even sprinkle salt and pepper if you'd like. We also had some rosemary which added a really nice taste to this. (We made two of these calzones)
8. Let it cook until the dough is golden brown - NOT burned. Placing the pan on the middle or lower rack is your best bet. This should take no longer than 15 minutes if your dough was in the fridge, and no longer than 25 if your dough was frozen.
9. Enjoy! Feeds about four people per calzone! Serving with ranch dressing on the side tastes great. Remember that you'll be eating this with a fork and knife, and not your hands.
I hope you all enjoy! I know my husband and I did!
