How many use pure BLEACH in the kitchen on items like cutting boards???

Contributor: Bignuf Bignuf
After my hubby cleans his aquarium gear, or I cut up raw beef or chicken, I am a stickler about using Clorox Bleach, straight up, on the different kitchen surfaces.

Anyone else love the smell of BLEACH and knowing their kitchen is SANITIZED?

Although bleach is the most effective sanitizer around, I don't use it on my kitchen counters, I only use 70% Isopropyl alcohol. I'm fully expecting other EFers to pop in here and contradict my use of alcohol as a disinfectant on my counters, but I'm already extra careful when I cut my raw meats, so alcohol is good enough for me, and it doesn't have that awful bleach odor.

Here's how anal I am with handling raw meats: I line my counters with oversize clear plastic wrap to avoid any unnecessary raw meat juice splashing, and cut the meat in the foam tray it came in, there's practically no way I'll mess my counters up when I'm doing that. After all the meat preparation has been done, I'll wrap the foam trays inside the plastic wraps for disposal, then disinfect my counters with alcohol...I think that is pretty clean!

I have a terrible reaction to bleach, so I don't use it or products that have it as an ingredient. Just getting close to it will break me out in a rash and make me all itchy. Plus the smell gives me migraines. I use Lysol for disinfecting countertops and such.

I dont use straight bleach. I dont like getting those white dots on my clothes! But I do have a spray bottle with about 3/4ths full of plain water and the rest bleach. I feel this is good enough. I also use simple green for cleaning.

I wouldn't use bleach at all. It leaves residues. White vinegar is usually enough, unless you like rubbing old raw meat everywhere. But don't use vinegar if you washed everything with bleach, acids react with sodium hypochlorite to form a toxic gas (chlore). People actually die from mixing acids with bleach everyday.

Also, a word of caution, if you have any stainless/chrome/metal surfaces, bleach degrade those...

I do use bleach in the kitchen. It's not 100 percent when I use it, I'll dilute it. When I had plastic Tupperware, I would put it in a bleach solution, especially if it had tomato sauce in it. I also bleach white coffee mugs so they don't get dingy brown.

Nope, I don't use bleach. My kitchen does not need to be sanitized. I use oxygen bleach to clean my porcelain sink though.

we use a cleaner. I have never used straight bleach. Even in the kitchens of high class restaurants.

I don't use bleach in the kitchen. The smell gets to me, and the sanitizing I do appears to be enough for the type of food I prepare.

My partner does too. I don't clean with it because it gives me a terrible head ache but when he cleans, he uses it.

Only a 10% bleach solution, which I rarely use. I prefer other methods, since I have this paranoia about it leaving residue behind, and also the bleach smell is a trigger for my migraines, so I prefer not to use it.

i don't have meat products in my kitchen so I don't worry too much, but when I do want something especially clean I'll use a water and bleach mix. I also like the smell of bleach, but only when it's watered down.

I have a bad reaction to that bleach smell. Especially when used around an area where I'm eating. I get a headache, get really nauseous and really can't deal with it.

I try not to use bleach very much at all around the house. There are better ways for me to clean that get the job done without making me sick.

The smell of bleach bothers me, so I really don't use it much. I am fine with the different cleaners available.
