Pubic Hair... You Shave or Choose Not to Shave. That Is the Question.

There's no law, and there are certainly a lot of people who never touch their pubic hair. I've worked in women's health, and although shaving adn removing hair is common for teens, 20s and early to mid 30s, the majority of older women simply do not remove much, if any pubic hair.
And, it's really a new thing. 20 years ago, the only women you saw "Clean shaven" were strippers, porn models and.... professionals. I know some older doctors (mostly OBGYNs and Internists) who still think all women who shave are "in the business" somehow.
Do what YOU are comfortable with. I see no reason to feel "bad" about YOUR choice for YOUR body. less

I do it because I like the way it looks and feels. In the summer I especially like how airy it feels when it's bare. My husband could care less either way, I always had a lot of pubic hair and it has always bugged me, so when I started shaving I shaved it all from a young age. I also wax off my arm hair and shave my legs and underarm hair every day. No one or nothing has influenced me to do it. It's just my own freaky personal preference! We're all freaky in our own way! If you like yours natural, then totally go with it! To me it's all about what makes you feel good and comfortable.

I shave it into a French bikini style and am currently trying to build up the confidence (and length!) to try waxing.
I feel more attractive when I'm trimmed like that. My hair grows out a little onto my inner thighs which has made me feel kinda fugly ever since those highschool post-pubescent change room scenarios.
I feel more sexy and confident when I'm trimmed. Not so into the full shave though.

But I absolutely can't stand razor shaving. It really drives me insane as the prickles grow. I hate even the feel straight after shaving - it's never perfectly smooth. So I use an Emjoi (rip the hair out) rechargeable shaver which is divine. My skin is baby smooth and sooooo lickable!

Doctors make poor decisions based on erroneous assumptions every day and it drives nurses, and more progressive doctors CRAZY!
It's amazing what many doctor don't know about sex and the assumptions they have about patients. So many docs (more often the older ones, but there are a lot of younger ones) spent all their lives studying and "didn't get out much." That often causes them to make assumptions, not understand common social changes and often have hubris regarding "lay people." Believe me, nearly every tolerant nurse I know gets upset about this stuff. (And, then of course, you have nurses with the same kind of intolerance and naivete, and often they can be worse than some of the doctors.)
Lucky are the people who have up to date, in touch and tolerant doctors.

I prefer myself waxed totally bare. It just looks and feels sexier to me, plus it shows off my genital piercings better.

I use an Epilator. Usually it's all off except for a landing strip, I like that soft and silky feel when it's bare down there. It's also more convenient for my hubby to go down on me, no need to go through a forest finding my clit!

Interesting - I'm going to assume that shaved vulvas are common enough in Southern California that the Docs know its just the current 'style'.

Everyone's hurting - we used a 1/2 price promotion that came around Christmas - I think it was $200 for 6 treatments. Did it hurt? The shop she went to has a strategy that assumes some hair is more susceptible than others. So the firs treatment the laser was set low - to get the 'easy' hairs. The treatments are spaced out by 4-6 weeks and each one they crank up the power. By the third one she said she could feel a tinge every time the laser 'caught' a follicle. I believe she has 2 more to go - but the results have been impressive. She also lets them know where the hairs are more persistent - and they spend more time in those areas.

All in all a great success - she's pleased and I'm loving the smooth results.

I like it trimmed. My girl's almost all bare. Not only don't we get a faceful of hair when we go down on each other, she says things are cleaner and easier to clean during the period.

I like a nice balance between hairy and plucked chicken-trimmed landing strip for me. That is, when I'm not lazy and let it grow out.

I trim it because that's what's most comfortable for me. If I go bare, the hair grows back and makes me too itchy.

bare i hate hair

Once or twice a month, I shave completely. Between those, I shave any area that would be exposed in my undies/bathing suit.
I always shave before my period, just because it keeps things neater. Beyond that, it's kind of just whenever I feel like it so it doesn't get too untidy looking down there. I like to just kind of keep things tidy and clean.

my newest boyfriend shocked me when he (initially) shyed away from going down on me because of my 'hippy hairstyle' and said he'd 'never been with a girl who didn't go bare.' i found that shocking. and i attributed his personal bald upkeep to his ideas extracted from popular porn. i mean, in the 70's i really just don't see this sort of exchange happening.
so i'm curious what the actual % out there is. am i a hippy freak and you are practically all bare down there?
if you do get rid of some or all of your fur, what made you decide? i'm very interested in the decision making process one goes through before changing their pubic hairstyle. i personally used to shave because my first boyfriend told me it was 'skanky' and i was young, dumb, and impressionable. i shaved until age 19 when i started transitioning in many ways, and broke away from alot of previous ideas that i felt were keeping me from growing into the most free person i could be.
is it for cleanliness? for your partner? did you see someone with no hair once and compare it to your own, and feel you needed to change? all of the above?
thanks for your input. less

I answered for my wife, she goes bare which I find very sexy but it doesn't stop me if she hasn't

I trim, mostly because I have no 'grain' to shave against or with and also when i shave I get horrible horrible ingrowns and get really bloody and full of pus down there, yuck!

I shave my nether regions with an electric head shaver, not a razor.

I apologize if I have told this here before, but when I was younger my step mom told me that I couldn't shave my legs. (I'm talking 12-13 yearsish.) My response to that was to quietly shave my pubes. I hadn't ever so much as made out with someone but it was my secret rebellion. I didn't keep up with it then.
Fast forward six years or so, I was dating this guy and one day he told me that I should shave. I, all about being his equal, replied only if he did the same. We both did. I then realized that I really preferred everything smooth so I have (mostly) kept up with it since. Occasionally I'll go a bit, never longer than a week or two, without shaving. Even if I'm only enjoying my own company I still make it a point to shave because I do it for me. The only exception was when I was pregnant, feeling incredibly unsexy, and having a hard time maneuvering around my massive belly.

I am totally clean shaven, I gave up on designs and now I keep up just as I do my legs. My bod is used to it, no itchiness or redness.
I do it for me cuz I like it!

I shave completely every couple of days. It's not that I think anyone "isn't clean" for not doing it, I just personally feel like I'm more clean for shaving. My guy doesn't seem to have a preference. And the itchiness isn't really that bad. One tip thought, especially for the front, not the labia: Shave WITH the grain of the hair. It won't get quite as close, but it will hurt a lot less and avoid in-grown hairs!

Like it trimmed, not sure why though since I am not seeing anyone at the moment. Just makes me feel better about myself I suppose.

I have a landing strip for my own personal comfort. Going completely bare looks off on me, but I hate having hair down there. It feels awful to me, and I get a lot more sensation when it's gone. It's also a lot easier to keep clean when I'm shaved, and I very rarely feel sweaty-nasty while it's shaved.
09/19/2011
NO SHARP THINGS NEAR MY VULVA. also I don't shave anything anywhere. Hairy legs, hairy pits. Its how I am. I end up with guys who don't mind because the other ones aren't interested. hasn't really been a problem
