For $9,000 a month Utah's Oxbow Academy promises to cure teens of their drug-like porn addiction.

You can read all about it here:

Almost $9,000 US per month to treat teen-age porn addiction? Wouldn't it be easier to just take away their phone and only let them use a computer with adult supervision?

Agreed. Cut off the cell phone. Give them one of those kiddie laptops that just has a word processing program. At least attempt to do some parenting before shelling out 9k a month for a camp to do the same thing you could do at home.

Also - "The effect is warping their minds and leading some to commit violent sex attacks, often as part of gangs."

That? Is bullshit. Porn doesn't "warp" the mind, nor does it lead people to commit violent acts. I've watched porn since I was 12 and never committed a violent act. I've known people who haven't seen porn that have. Porn is a scapegoat in this instance, I believe. Just like rock music gets blamed or rap gets blamed for crimes. People want someone or something to blame their own bad actions on rather than up and take responsibility for it themselves.

The article goes on and on and on about porn, but never once mentions all the violence children are exposed to in our society. Why blame human brutality when you can blame SEX!

"As they work through things they are under pressure to pass the polygraph lie detector test.

“They start to look at the therapist as an ally and realise they can disclose the most shameful stuff.

“Then, two months into the treatment, we administer the polygraph test.

"It is only three or four questions, to see if they have disclosed the whole truth.”

Good thing polygraph tests are completely accurate.

For many years there were "drug treatment programs" that were pushed on parents, as a way to get rid of their kids for a few months. Kids who were caught with even small amounts of weed were often dumped into these residential programs for as long as 6 months! These programs would target people with either money or good insurance.

Now, if they can classify "porn addiction" as a dangerous activity in teens, they have a whole new bunch of kids to "treat" (er, make money off of their parents, most like it.)

This is a much bullshit as the boot camps and residential treatment programs for small amounts of marijuana.

Yes, some people DO get addicted to pornography. But, I'm willing to bet the majority of the kids in these programs are not "addicts" but kids whose parents want full time day care for their teens. Health Insurance doesn't pay for boarding school, but it does pay for "residential treatment." It's just kid-dumping as far as I can tell.

The parents that use these programs are the same ones that put their babies into 12 to 16 hour a day day care centers. "What? I have to RAISE my own kids? No, I'll just pay someone else to do it!" You can't put teens in day care, and if you can't afford boarding school, you get "treatment" for them. WHY do people like this even HAVE kids?
