I'd avoid face piercings because they can scar and you could regret them and avoid surface piercings because they reject a lot.

I would suggest waiting until you find something that calls to you rather than doing something that others suggest. You'll end up liking it more that way.

The first piercing I got besides my ears was my tongue. I thought on it for over a year and did some research on what it would entail to get one. First off oral hygiene is a must. Any time I tried to eat or drink I had to rinse my mouth with Listerine and that includes smoking. I had a really hard time talking which interfered with my job. I ran a low grade fever for a little over a week and my tongue was swollen and sore for about a week as well. I got it done back in 1998 and I have bit down on it 3 times in that time frame. I have chipped only one of my back teeth and it wasn't a bad chip. I have never regretted getting it done and my husband likes it (though I was single when I got it). Also not many people know I have it and when people realize I do they are surprised.

I have a belly button piercing and I have had it done twice. They both got infected after getting them done. The first time I took it out so I could get rid of the infection. The second time I used a antibiotic cream to clear up the infection and it has been fine ever sense. The funny thing about this type of piercing is when you get an X-ray of your abdomen it looks like your a wind-up toy.

I use to have my nose pierced as well. I had it done 3 times. Each time it too got infected and the smell made me sick. Every time I got a cold/ runny nose it would end up hurting or it would get infected. It was too much of an inconvenience so I took it out and left it out.

Good luck with what ever you choose to get pierced. If you are concerned with the pain (which only lasts a moment) you can go to your family doctor and ask for something to help. There is a cream called Emmila Tagaderm for the skin to numb it. Doctors use it for kids to make I.V's painless. If you decided to do oral piercings you can try Viscous Lidocaine which is also great for sore throats (It's a non-addictive).

I also think it's probably a good idea to wait until you feel more strongly about it, but I'll add my two cents anyway. The only thing I have pierced other than my ears is my nose. It's a small stud, I've had it for nearly 5 years, and I really like it. Unlike HarlequinBunnie, I've never had a problem with it getting infected when I'm sick (or at all), so it can be fine. At one point it had nearly healed over (long story), but there wasn't really a visible scar or anything, since it's so close to the crease of my nose.

Facial piercings, unless they're not cared for or they are surface piercings, almost NEVER scar. And if they do, it looks like a freckle at the most. -_________-

To the OP: posting pictures would help, as not every piercing suits every person's face.
