Pet owners. Do you have a "regular vet" or do you just use a "regular clinic" or do you "find someone when you need someone"?

Contributor: Bignuf Bignuf
I notice more and more of these "clinics" like VCA and PetSmart shop clinics, where the vets come and go frequently. Many are "chains". Very different from the "one vet" who knows my pets and has cared for them for years (usually for life). Other people, I work with, just take the dog to the nearest office when they need something and have zero long term relation with a vets office. I wonder how many people do which?

I have a regular clinic I use, but they have a few vets. All know me, however.

I use a clinic regularly, but the vets may come and go. Not sure who will care for my pet on any visit.

I just use whatever clinic is nearby or open. No relationship on a regular basis.

I don't go to the vet, since my Llama's won't get in the car. The vet comes to me.

My three dogs and my other pets are all cared for by a local clinic that has been there for years. The vets all know our dogs well, and we get very personal and great treatment. We even have their "home" numbers, as "regulars" and so in an emergency, we don't have to use the "local emergency vet clinic", but instead we can call their vet "on call" and they will meet us anytime (after hours) and help our pets if needed. It's great.

I have one vet that I go to for my cats, and have been going to for years now. My parents bring their cats to her, as well. I enjoy that she knows me and my animals.

I have another one that I use specifically for my sugar gliders (my cats vet isn't able to treat exotic animals).

In the past, I've tried just seeing any vet that was available in an emergency, but I ended up getting ripped off by about $500... From now on, I stick to the ones I know.

I take my cats to the same vet hospital that my family has been using since the 1940's. There have been only a few changes in the vets & they know our whole family & everyone's pets.

it is much better to stick with a veterinarian you know and have built a relationship with. for your pets health, and they will be more willing to go the extra miles for your pet. you may get freebies or discounts too, but i didnt say anything!

We have a vet we go to with both our animals and have been for ten years. He knows is and the animals so we don't have to repeat ourselves each time. Makes things faster and easier.

It depends on the situation. When it is an emergency it is whoever is closest or cheaper. For shots we take the kitties to our regular clinic. Our poor kitty had an Aural Hematoma and we couldn't afford to take him to the vet so my mother in law took him to hers. It is better now but I am glad we got it fixed.

I use the same vet for all my animals but I don't go there unless there is a health concern. so we hardly get to know the staff or the vet... I can't afford 100 -300 dollars every 6 months...

I live in a place where there is no permanent vet or clinic, no animal care whatsoever. So whenever the travelling vet truck comes in, we take everyone in for a check up, because they rarely come up this way!

I go to a clinic where my friend works but we don't go often because it's SO expensive to take animals to the vet. I don't understand why it can be an automatic $200 when I take my cat to the vet sometimes and nearly nothing is wrong with him.

My cat has only had to go to a vet once thankfully, just to get fixed and shots. She's very very healthy and active and I have multiple friends with experience in the veterinary field so she's usually taken care of. If I do need to take her in, I'll just find a local vet, wherever I'm living at the time.

All my guys have had the same vet forever. In fact, with the dogs & cats, I've actually had 3 generations of pets going to the same vet. He's great, and I like that everyone there knows me and knows my pets. You get better service that way, and the vet is also aware of on-going issues.

We used to go to different vets, but since our oldest dog was very sick (and died ) we go to the one who helped him die better and also helped us with the little one's education and dog vaccines.

My clinic has different vets who specialize in different things. (For my horses that is. My dogs have just one old man who knows them excellently).

We go to the same vet office, and see the same vet. He gets to know the animals well, and it has a nice caring feeling to it.
