Lately, I've been drinking Coke Zero with a splash of strawberry Fanta. When my boyfriend asks if I want anything to drink, instead of saying "strawberry Coke," I've made a name for it: "Sure honey, I'll take a Black Widow." I pour the Coke Zero in first, then I pour a small amount of strawberry Fanta on top. So it looks like there is a red layer on top of the black layer (like a black widow with the red on the top). And with my recent run-in with a black widow, it just seemed appropriate. I know...kind of dumb...

Do you have a special little drink that you make and have a name for? Alcoholic or non-alcoholic?

I do this a lot, though my drinks aren't very creatively named.

One of my favorites is a Slutty Shirley Temple:

1 or 2 shots of cherry brandy (aka kirschwasser or kirsch)
ginger ale
dash grenadine

Super yummy!

A friend of mine came up with an interesting variation of an absinthe drink that she never got around to creating, but sounded intriguing for anyone who can manage it (mainly, acquiring a -50F freezer). I've no desire to try this out, as it sounds incredibly dangerous.

Cambridge Emerald Faerie

sugar water (1 part sugar to 2 parts water) poured over
2-3 frozen absinthe "ice" cubes
in a rocks glass

Allow the absinthe cubes to melt a bit before drinking
(Have an ambulance standing by ... )

Diet coke with vanilla vodka...with little or no originality its called Vanilla Coke.
