package delivery

Has any one else had problems with the post office not delivering their packages?

I was home all day today. In the garage with the door open, and the front door was also open. You can see my house from the street. It is not down some long driveway or other private road. I went out to get the mail, and I had a note from the mailman, stating he had missed us and we need to go to the post office to pick up our package. Today it is not that big of a deal, because I am not waiting for anything. But I am still alittle upset that I have to drive to the post office to pick up a package that could have been dropped off at our house, like they say they tried to do. This has been the second time in a row they have done this. I hope this is not their way of cutting cost.

This has only happened to me when it is a big package. Probably cuz the post lady has a small car.

Might be worth it to ask them.

This used to happen to me when I had a mailbox that was too small for packages (and no porch). It was annoying, because I'd make all the arrangements to work from home to receive the package, and then never get a knock...

When I'd notice via the tracking site that my package was going to be delivered that day, I started putting a post-it note on the mailbox saying "Hi USPS, I'm home, please knock!"---and then they started knocking every time, whether I remembered to put a note out or not.

I think it's less likely USPS policy, and just more that on a given mail route, most carriers expect most people to be at home, so they just don't bother knocking. Kind of a bummer, but it's their 40hr/week job, I'm sure they get sick of knocking for no answer all the time.

Just let your carrier know you're waiting and they'll actually probably be glad to be able to deliver things for you.

That would get on my nerves. Even if the mailman knocks and I don't hear it, they just leave it on the floor outside of my door... Which actually kind of bothers me for other obvious reasons, luckily I have neighbors I can trust.

We have that happen all the time to us. Frankly, I've stopped getting things shipped via USPS unless I am shipping it to my office. The funny thing is, we are pretty friendly with our mailman, but we still have issues.

The first time I got something delivered, the UPS guy whent to the wrong door. Now if I'm not home, he just leaves it at my door. Luckily I live in the back so no one notices or goes there.

It's probably a lazy mailman who didn't bother to lift your package out from his vehicle and walk a few extra steps. I'd file a complaint about the incidence, maybe you're not the only victim!

that is just it, I think it is either a dvd or 2 paperback books. Those are the only things we are expecting in the mail at this time.

My post office has lost about 5 packages in the last 2 years (since they have been under new management). Part of the problem is that they instated this bizarre program whereby we have a different mailman every day, so people don't have the chance to learn the route as well (we used to have the same mailman every day, for years). Other packages have been sent to other post offices, or lost at the post office itself. Now I have to always get tracking or send by UPS!

Whenever I am home I have to put a note to knock or most of the time they will simply leave the box and not make a peep.

my mail guy is great about bringing packages to the door & leaving a note in the mailbox if they miss me. i know when to expect him when i order something. but it sounds to me like your guy isn't even trying to deliver your stuff, he's just leaving a note in the mailbox.

Huh, how strange. I was expecting delivery on Wednesday and didn't even receive a note saying that it was being held at the post office or if I had an option for redelivery. I had to find out through the tracking number several hours after the post office closed.

Screw that, I said! I picked the option to have the item redelivered. I thought maybe the box was too big or something like that. NOPE! It's the smallest box uses to ship and it's Post Office approved!

I know it's been brutally hot out here lately so that may be a factor, but still...no excuse.

They usually leave my packages between my screen & front door. They ring the bell but don't even stick around long enough for me to come answer it, they just leave it and run. Works for me, never had an issue.

I've luckily never had that problem, and I'm forever grateful for it. Packages do get left on my porch, but they did at my last house too and I've never had a problem with them disappearing either. The fact that I do always get my packages makes up for (in my mind) the wildly differing delivery times. I might not always get them before I leave for my night job, but they're always waiting for me when I get home.

I have had several problems with FedEx outsourcing their delivery to 3rd parties and having parcels "delivered at front door" but is always never to be found. UPS doesn't seem to have that problem because all the UPS guys drive around UPS trucks so I know their really UPS guys.

Whenever possible we have stuff delivered by UPS or FedEx. We have the same driver for both and they know where to leave stuff. Unless the shipper has specified signature required (some do) we know where our packages will be when we get home.

I have never had a problem with ups or fedex. But some times they are not a option for shipping.

I do a lot of ordering, but I don't think I've ever had a problem with the postal service. Sure, I've had problems with the packages, but that's not the Royal Mail's fault.
