ONLY one and a half hours to go. Is that AIRCRAFT CARRIER sized rock...floating (zooming) by between the earth and moon going to really hit the earth???

Contributor: Bignuf Bignuf
I sure hope not, but that is WAY too close for comfort. Another reason we DO need an active space program!!! One of those big rocks COULD hit the earth and occasionally something from up there DOES hit down here...just ask a dinosaur. Oh...never mind, you can't, BECAUSE one of those big things from up there, DID hit down here (and the dino's had cancelled their space program too).

Voting ends right after we will KNOW for sure if it "passed us by" or not.

I am worried it MIGHT hit the earth.
I am not worried about it at all.

I think it WILL hit the earth and no one is telling us, so there won't be useless panic.

I don't really care. If it happens, it happens - no point in me worrying about it.

Never heard of it until now!

I don't see how having a manned space program would keep it from hitting us, I mean they can't shoot it down or anything. Anyway, I'm not worried about it.

Does anyone have a link to an article I can read? I've not heard of this until now!

Ya, pretty much this. If it's going to happen it's going to happen and me worrying about it won't change anything.

All you had to do was watch the world news tonight. BINGO, there were even photos of the thing flying by at 29,000 mph, and only 201,000 miles away. Scary close.

Actually, sooner or later one big one WILL have our name on it, and we BETTER be ready to meet it, greet it, and DEFLECT IT, be it by implanted rocket motors, or controlled detonations, to another trajectory and we BETTER do it far enough out to miss us....or we WILL go the way of the Dinosaur. Yes, we COULD potentially use unmanned vehicles for this, but would YOU trust the fate of ALL EXISTENCE on thinking humans, on the spot, who can improvise or a computer...fast, but dumb as a rock, if something falls outside it's programmed parameters???? No....if MY planet needs saving, I think we...HUMANS, need to be ready to go out and DO IT. Someday will WILL...not might...WILL have to do it, and the time to fire up an advanced space program is not the night before we see that big, bad rock or comet heading our way!!!!!!!!!!!

If it happens, hope it'll hit me first without warning, so I don't have to stay behind and suffer!!!

I watched a show on what would happen if we shot missiles, etc in order to make meteors not hit the earth. It pretty much said that it was impossible to totally divert meteors, and most of/pieces of the meteor would hit the earth anyway. If it happens, it happens.

Actually, if it killed off all humans, that'd probably be for the best.

Um, 'Armegeddon' was a movie. The science in it was so fuzzy, the Tribbles called for their fur back.

Anyway, I can understand why this was revealed so late - nothing could be done. Announcing this in advance would have caused chaos and death, as humans are not very calm and noble when it comes to natural disasters that could kill us.

Just because something isn't "manned" doesn't mean it can't be controlled by people.
