So I just discovered something sneaky another sex toy site has done! If you type in www(dot)edenfantasys(d ot)co (as in, you miss the "M" by mistake), you are redirected to www(dot)sexarena(dot)c om! They must know what good business Eden does, and wanted to take advantage of anything they could to get people interested in their company instead. Don't you think that's incredibly underhanded?
Oh, Sneaky!

Wow. That's silly of them.

True, EF will always be, but who knows how many people will fall into the trap and not realize it (or think Eden went bye-bye just because they accidentally missed the "m" in the address). Seems underhanded to me. :X

I just noticed something that makes me really mad about that site. They put their P-spot stimulators and male-oriented penetrative toys in a catrgory called "For-Gays!" So, men who like prostate stimulation are gay now?! Someone better tell my boyfriend before he gets some of this tonight!
Rawr, some people.

That's dumb. I noticed the "For gays" and "lesbian" categories as well. Is that really necessary? I don't think so. That's just silly. Should have learned a thing or two from Eden if they were going to attempt to steal some of their business.

Interesting.

I'm gonna go out on a limb and say that stuff like this happens all the time. I don't think too many people would actually be fooled, either - if you're going through the trouble to actually type out the name in the address bar, you're probably going to notice when the site that comes up has nothing "edenfantasys" on it.
01/28/2012
No matter how sneaky they are, it won't make me check out their site. Once I realize it's not where I want to go, I'll immediately get out of there. Besides, I've got Eden bookmarked, so something like this will never happen to me.

bsgs
its not illegal, but it is pretty sketchy....^i have to agree with toxie m that youd notice that the site has nothing EF on it especially since you probably wrote out the address
01/28/2012
They figured out a way to get more traffic.
01/28/2012
nothing advertisers do or say shocks or surprises me anymore. They are low-lifes just like lawyers
01/28/2012
Hm. I'm surprised I haven't bookmar--Oh wait. I'm on Wolfie's computer! Duh, Pixie. My computer is at my dad's to be fixed. He's a real whiz ^_^

Listen, if you go mis-type a lot of huge companies url or type in a product that they make with a .com after it, it will take you back to the main company website. If you are in the internet business you need to cover all of your bases.
01/28/2012
There are other near-misses of url's that I've typed in before that seem much sketchier than this. Just be thankful you didn't get adspam or a million popups.
Like Lucky21 says, it's good when companies cover their own bases and buy the urls for all the commonly-mistyped iterations of their name. I usually type edenfantasies.com and that brings me right to EF

Oops. I meant to say yeah! It's pretty weird, but it's not like you can get confused between that site and Eden. I think that websites usually buy domains close to t heir own in case of accidental mistypes. Clearly that site did that for someone else's site.

Wow. That's messed-up! I hope they don't get much business from doing that. And how dare they say that prostate massagers, etc. are only for gay people!
01/28/2012
You got us! We're all going to shop at your shady online store that we've never seen but were redirected to now! Because you seem like an honest company! /lol
01/28/2012
I think it's a little bit desperate and a little bit shady. If anything, it ruins any credibility the other site may be able to generate, so I think it hurts them in the long run. Also, I think it helps solidify EF users to EF, so I see what they tried to do, but I think it's a failure in every way you can imagine.
01/28/2012
Haha FAIL.
I would never shop there. Who wants to shop at a shop where people are doing such sneaky things?? I like my shops non sneaky please. They will probably sneak all of your money out of your bank acount...

Is that legal ?
01/28/2012
There are a lot of companies that do stuff like that. Most of the time they are actually identity stealing websites. You always have to check twice.
01/28/2012
Eh yeah, sneaky but clever!
01/28/2012
kind of sneaky but the co. is something I see often to link to sites outside of the USA sooo i'm not sure if they are actually being sneaky. One of my fav sites is uk.co Darkangel clothing and of course there is a lame american site with the same name. are they copying each other no I don't think so.

I think it's a trademark breach. Note the little R in the logo of EF, if that's an R like it's an R on Coca Cola for example then EF is indeed a registered trademark. I don't think anyone could register a trademark under a different TLD. Or EF could take ownership of the domain by proving they are the real deal. No?

I agree, it seems pretty sketchy. But, this *is* the internet. =\
