A friend of ours son just bought a HISSING COCKROACH...one of those giant things, as a pet! YUKKO in our book.

That is at the extreme of odd pets that I have ever known anyone to own, although a girlfriend in college did have a real pet tarantula (she went on to get a degree in entomology, so that kind of seemed normal for her).

Anyone else own or know of someone who owns a really "odd" pet? What is it???

I had an albino skunk once ad a pet. It's sprayer had been removed.

Someone in my neighborhood growing up had monkies, they had many for a long time, they had some back when my dad was young. You could see them in the house in the area that was theirs, it had mostly glass around it. I think the last monkey passed away recently, and I know monkeys as pets are now banned in my state since a woman's face was mauled off from one.

My grandmother growing up in Italy had a monkey as well and had a pet deer. C:

I had a skunk as a pet - was really neat and I loved him. He had his sprayer removed and he was hilarious to watch cause he'd get mad and thump and lift his tail and I'd just stand there laughing at him. He never could figure out why I didn't run and hide.

I'd love to have another pet skunk some day.

I've never owned anything terribly strange but I've had lots of tarantulas and snakes. I had rats and mice. The weirdes I've ever owned as a pet was an Ant Lion which is a type of bug. They live in the sand and turn into something looking like a dragonfly.

They looked cute to me, anyway :/
