My daughter's birthday is coming up in a little over a month, and I'm thinking about getting her a Nintendo DSi. The only question is, DSi or DSi XL? My younger brother has the XL, but it looks as though the only difference between it and the standard DSi is the size of the screen and quality of the speakers? Or is there more to it than that? I'd like this to be just a one-time purchase, since it's on the pricey side, so I want to make the *right* purchase! Help?

The XL is slightly bigger and comes in boring 'mature' colors. Those are the only differences. It is just the repackaged version that is marketed towards adults. I would imagine that the slightly larger size will limit a lot of your storage and case accessory options.

But helps make it easier to see for the "adults" who have a hard time seeing what's going on on those little screens.

I like the regular DS Lite as it has the GBA slot because I still have my GBA games. Never saw the point in the cameras and all, though.

There are photo manipulation apps and programs on their to use with the camera. It is pretty cool.

Our kids have the DSi regular sizes - and they love them. The accessories are easy to find, the size is practical, and they stand up to rough play and use. Buy a case to protect it, though!

My girls have the DSi XL and they love them. The larger screen makes the graphics pop on the RPG games they love. They make cases for the DSi XL and they are $19.99 here in Canada so they'd be arguably cheaper in the US. The color choice is limited though as Gary mentioned.

I'd go with the DSi unless your children have trouble seeing. It's cheaper and easier to carry around and they'll probably like the colors better. Really, though, it depends.

My brother had the DSi and ended up trading it in for the latest PSP... although he's already planning on trading that in when the new Nintendo 3DS comes out, so maybe he isn't the best example lol. *I* liked the DSi
