New Starbucks coffee blend (Blonde Roast)

Contributor: Cookie Monster Mike Cookie Monster Mike
Has anyone else tried this yet? I was at Target the other morning and they were giving away free sample packs of their new Blonde Roast. The one I got was Veranda Blend, it's a light roast compared to a lot of their other coffee. Normally I'll never buy Starbucks coffee in a bag, don't have the money for that but I figured I'd try a free sample why not?

All I can say is if you are a fan of light roast coffee and Starbucks, you should try this stuff. I've never had coffee like this before, I drink it black and most of the time the coffee I drink doesn't go down very smooth. It has the distinctive texture of water simply flavored with brewed coffee. However this stuff, is very very smooth, there is no bitter after taste and it is definitely a light roast. Some coffee will say it's a light roast but it still tastes strong. Sadly I don't have the money to buy this blend except maybe on special occasions.

Any ways, I am curious to see if anyone else has tried it yet, or when you do try it out you should tell us what ya think Starbucks Blonde Blend

On a true roast spectrum, Starbucks Blonde roast is pretty dark. It is roasted until the start of the second crack, which generally corresponds to an internal bean temperature of about 450 degrees Fahrenheit. This is where I generally stop roasting for espresso, which is the darkest I roast.

However, Blonde roast is really exciting for Starbucks, as it open up a completely different interpretation of coffee flavor. Rather than letting bitter roast flavors dominate, this roast level allows a balance between the roast flavor and bright acidity. I've been experimenting with the Willow blend this past week and while I don't care for it as a drip filter coffee, it actually performs quite well in the French press, and as prepared with an espresso machine. The East African content of the Willow blend really comes out when consumed as a straight shot of espresso, or as an Americano. I really hope the Blonde roast sticks around, and possibly gets expanded.

Oooh! I work in Target and I haven't heard about this yet. (we do have a starbucks in our store as well). I wonder if my store will have any free samples. I really don't like dark or medium roasts for coffee, so maybe I'll like this one.

I'm a cheapie, so I only brew Seattle's Best coffees at home. I don't normally buy coffees at Starbucks, but I'll give those new blends a try next time when I feel like one, after reading your thread!

I don't support the whole Starbucks thing. I don't really get anything "Starbucks" unless I get a free gift card or a gift from someone.

This Blonde roast is definitely not bitter and that's what how I like it. Nice and smooth with almost no bitterness. All I can say is that drinking it black was very pleasant this morning, very smooth going down and it settled just fine in my stomach. Sometimes new coffee's can upset my stomach and have bad results

Normally I will drink the cheapest stuff I can find, usually 8 o-clock coffee for $5 or less depending where I can get it. But I was lucky to get a good deal on 5x 12oz bags of some Hawaiian Kona Blend at $2 per bag, normally $10. Score!

@CafeSabroso---Thanks for the reminder, I do have a french press somewhere and I'll have to try that out. Normally a french press would make my favorite coffee really bitter in most cases. But the Blonde Blend has promise!

@Missmarc---I don't really "support" Starbucks, but I'm not ashamed to say they do have some selections of unique and awesome coffee, most recently, the blonde blend. Do I agree with their prices? Of course not, but they are a business. I will say that almost all the time that 8 o-clock coffee tastes just as good to me.

Being from Seattle, I have not tried this blend; but I am a lover of Starbucks coffee. My favorite is French Roast. Their Christmas blends are truly a surprise each year. They use that approach to test new blends like the Starbucks Blonde! Almost all Starbuck coffees are of a darker or longer roasting process. That give it a deeper and stronger flavor.

I've been wanting to try it. I'll have to take myself down to Starbucks and attempt this one. I don't like how bitter coffee is, so this would be a good thing. As I drink a lot of coffee because I -don't- sleep.

I've never liked coffee shop coffee, but I got a free sample of the blonde roast and it was very good! I would consider buying a bag. I hate bitter coffee and the blonde roast was anything but!

Admittedly, I'm not much of a Starbucks fan or Seattle's Best. They just don't taste as good to me as a local shop or even Speedway coffee.

I went to my local target and they also had some free samples out, it's enough I think to make 8-12cups of coffee. It tasted really good.

It's pretty tasty for a light roast. I prefer nutty, dark blends, but am not a fan of overly acidic coffee. I'll have it again!

So far my favorite is the Anniversary Blend.

I have not tried the Anniversary Blend, in fact I haven't tried much of Starbucks coffee really. My mother is big on the extremely strong bitter and dark roast. I can't remember which one she had last time but the beans where as black as night and the smell was over-powering.
