Do you do thrift shops, garage sales, thrift sales, or do you always do "new" on anything you buy?
If you do, indeed, "thrift shop", have you ever gotten any super "treasures" or amazing deals?
We tend to buy "new". However, we go to "estate sales". At one home, in a very upscale neighborhood, a widower had just passed away. No family even in the state and in his garage (a company was selling everything..wall to wall, for the "estate"), was a lawn tractor. Still in the box. A Sears Craftsman $2400-$2800 tractor, and the guy said "how much do you want for it...we don't know if it runs, or how long it's been sitting there"(??? Brand new...still in box!!!!). I said "will you take $300"...thinking he would laugh off my offer, and wondering if he would go less then $1500. To my shock he said "sure"!!!!
I backed up my truck, they helped load it in and I drove home with my new $300 lawn tractor. After calling Sears, I came to find out it was only three months old, and had a full factory warranty, and a transferable service plan, paid up front, for 5 years. Total value? $3300!!!! A savings of $3000. Not too shabby for an afternoon of quick "garage sale" shopping.
Indeed, it isn't finding an original Picasso worth millions for $10 at a garage sale, but it ain't too bad either!
