Pfft, this is silly and well-made. It'd be enough to fool most average americans.

no one likes to think about bad things that can happen to them...are you afraid and just blowing it off so you don't have to think about it?

you really think Nasa would spend so much time warning people wasting their time?
I was excited to blow my paycheck on EF items like porns and toys but now I'm afraid to buy anything. I really wanted a portable dvd player to take for my work breaks and also for porn. HOwever I Think I may be saving for matches, canned foods and suitcases with wheels.

This seems to be a more accurate site (albeit a bit older)

Nah, I'm not afraid as this is clearly not an official site. Solar storms can be damaging, but catastrophic damage that requires an emergency kit would be an extremely rare occurrence. It'd be more believable if the sun was near the end of its life cycle. The worst I think we'll ever get in my lifetime is a 2-3 day blackout, not enough to be that damaging and we'd recover quickly after the power restores itself.

NASA has recently said otherwise about this - they were wrong THIS time, as explained at this link, but as a science geek, that stuff is SCARY!

yea well maybe they put that article out there to fool people to believe nothing is going to happen...people want to believe they can't end up starving or a horrible world wide catastrophe can occur in their lifetime. SO much conflicting information..I think be prepared for the worst can't hurt.

How can a solar storm - which knocks out electrical equipment, stop us from getting food?
A large solar event is likely, but it won't send us back to the stone age. That's just alarmist drivel. A solar storm of world-wide magnitude occurred in 1859 and that effected us not a drop. Now, that was because there was no electrical technology to be had, so of course it would affect us differently now. The thing is, though, that scientists already have in place devices to watch the sun and give us advance warning - plenty of time to turn all our electrical appliances off. That's all we have to do. Turn our electrical gizmos off, wait for it to hit, let it hit us, wait for it to finish as we look up and marvel at the aurorae, let it finish - then turn everything else on again. That's it.
Oh, and make a cup of tea.

Now I'm freaking out less. Hopefully that's all it would turn into. That was just absolutely horrifying to read, on the site!

While looking over the site, I was waiting for an ad to come up to by someone's book!

Tell me about it! But there's no need to hope. No need to worry. We are very protected. Our Earth has survived a handful of such large solar expulsions, without damage. There is absolutely no evidence showing that the Sun has been responsible for any large catastrophes, loss of life, or mass extinction events. Barring medical illnesses like an allergy to light, the Sun has never harmed us, or the Earth.

There's no need to hope that what I said before is a best case scenario, because what I said could happen is the worst case scenario. Our Sun is simply too stable for such a damaging event to take place. When our Sun turns into a red giant, then we'll have cause for worry. But that's okay, because that's not due to happen for a few billion years!
At the moment, if we do have a run of very bad luck, we might get hit by a series of powerful CMEs and X-Ray bursts - but none of it will be powerful enough to overcome the Magnetosphere, Ionosphere and thick atmosphere beneath. The worst that could happen is that our electrical appliances die, and the satellites in orbit will crash. That's it.
There really is no need to panic. Or even to worry slightly.

That was my thought too! I figured you'd get halfway through the info and then find out that for just $49.99 you could find out how to protect yourself! LOL

Yeah. So everyone does know that the website is fake, yes? Go check out the actual NASA site. You can read about some of the AWESOME stuff little Kepler has been doing.
But seriously, if the universe that created us is going to bring us doom, it won't be an asteroid or a solar flair. Check out Gamma Ray Bursts.
